Moxie is one for the ages. Vivian Carter (Hadley Robinson), a shy junior at Rockport High School is struggling to write her college essay about what she cares about. Her mom, Lisa (Amy Poehler) says that all she cared about when she was 16 was smashing the patriarchy, so that is exactly what Vivan decides to do. Inspired by her outspoken new friend Lucy (Alycia Pascual-Pena) and her mom, Vivan decides to publish an anonymous pamphlet about sexism and toxic masculinity at her school. Moxie follows the ups and downs of Vivian’s newfound confidence and movement: her relationships, her strength, and her action.

The MCU’s latest installment of the Spider-Man series is finally out. When people said that they were “not okay” after watching the movie, I finally understood why when I watched it over the weekend. So yes, I am not okay. 

As it is advertised as a feminist coming of age film, most of Moxie’s audience are coming from exceptional movies like Booksmart, Lady Bird, and, Eighth Grade, which all are undoubtedly realistic in their portrayals of young women’s journey to self discovery.

Disney Plus launched on Nov. 12 of 2019 and quickly amassed more than 10 million subscribers. Its marquee original series, The Mandalorian, has already given fans Baby Yoda theories, merchandise and memes. And its success has Netflix and other big names in streaming taking notes. Not bad for $6.99 a month.
