Hear ye! Hear ye! Winterfest, the most wonderful time of year, is here!

East’s annual holiday concert will take place on December 19th and 20th at 7:00PM in the auditorium. The in-school assembly will take place on December 18th at 12:30PM, while the Transit assembly will occur on December 19th at 9:15AM.

The concert features East’s best musicians in a variety of solo, chamber, and large ensemble groups. Among the pieces that will be performed are “Vocalise” by Sergei Rachmaninoff, String Symphony No. 4 in C Minorby Felix Mendelssohn, “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” by John Frederick Coots, “Someone to Watch Over Me” by George Gershwin, and LeRoy Anderson’s time-tested classic, “Sleigh Ride”.

Both music students and teachers have been working hard for the past month to prepare this concert. Max Dai, a violinist in Symphonic Orchestra, says, “Mr. Moose has really been pushing us to achieve our best potential. He has been spending his time to give all of us individual lessons”. Aditya Goyal, a cellist in Philharmonic Orchestra, observes, “Winterfest is a lot of work, but it turns out really well every year.” Indeed, there has been fervent practicing among our school’s musicians over the previous few weeks, with wonderful melodies constantly emanating from the music wing’s practice rooms. Such a great concert demands great work. The dedication and intensity of the student-musicians is truly outstanding.

But, Winterfest is also fun. As Aditya Pandya, a member of Stage Crew, said emphatically, “I love Winterfest!” Peter Bertola, fellow Stage Crew member and President of Philharmonic Orchestra, stated, “It is my favorite time of the school year.”

Overall, the music students are very excited to perform and share their hard work. “Come watch me play the cello,” Calvin Lee, a cellist in Symphonic Orchestra, declared.

Moreover, Winterfest is not just about music, but it is also about teamwork and community. Members of the ensembles are supportive and proud of each other’s successes. Philip Baillargeon, trumpet player in Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Orchestra, Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Stage Crew, and our very own International News Editor, said, “Winterfest is very cool because I get to see all my favorite boys and girls shine. It’s wonderful to see everyone perform to their greatest potential. Very cool.”

So, don’t miss Winterfest! It is sure to be great!
