The Summer I Turned Pretty is a Prime Video series that was developed from award-winning author Jenny Han’s book trilogy. This show has sparked a ton of controversy about the infamous love triangle, the two Fisher boys, and the protagonist, Isabel “Belly” Conklin. We asked 100 random students at Williamsville East High, ranging from freshmen to seniors, about which team they reside on. About 17% claimed to be Team Jeremiah, with the majority, 83%, claiming to be on Conrad Fisher’s team. However, many viewers claimed to have changed teams after Season 3. Why is that?

Viewers have become overly obsessed and emotional when it comes to the suspense and surprise the finale would bring. Jenny Han, author and director, teased that “I do love surprising people.” Han, when questioned by the Los Angeles Times in September 2025—ahead of the finale—remarked that, “I feel strongly about wanting the audience to have the experience of not knowing what’s going to happen next … even though I know that others are probably restless to see how it all ends.” Han added, “Anything could happen.”

This led many viewers to expect the unexpected. This also led to big theories and debates taking place all over social media. So, what makes the finale so exciting and important? During the last episode titled “At Last,” it was strongly believed that Belly would end up with Benito—a Mexican guy that Belly became very close with during her stay in Paris. To the viewer’s surprise, Conrad decides to pay a visit to Belly in Paris and is shocked to see Isabel’s new, shorter haircut. Social media users have exploded with opinions. It is a common saying that “hair holds memories.” Is Belly trying to erase her past and start anew? This led viewers to conjecture that there would be one to two more surprise episodes following the finale. The ending was so open-ended and unexpected that theories quickly escalated.

To everyone’s surprise, Jenny Han announces a The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, for which a release date has not yet been set. Whether you’re team Jellyfish (Jeremiah + Belly) or Bonrad (Conrad + Belly), everyone is nervous about this upcoming feature film. There is no book written about this storyline, making it uncharted territory and leaving everyone in suspense. Throughout season 3, Jellyfish supporters sat comfortably watching their television, while Bonrad supporters were fighting the urge to smack their TVs. Of course, Han had to stir the plot and switch the narrative for a big, dramatic ending. The finale gave team Bonrad what they had dreamed of for a while—no more smacking the TV or desperately hoping for a change.

However, with the announcement of the film, many fans have posted about twisted and complicated theories that have dominated the internet. Whether you are team Jellyfish or team Bonrad, we all sit in suspense as we patiently and not-so-patiently await the release of this movie. Until then, fans continue to theorize, argue, and pick sides in the most electrifying YA love triangle of this generation.
