Ed Sheeran’s 2026 Loop Tour has recently become the center of controversy after rapper Macklemore was removed from the tour following pro-Palestinian comments he made during a performance in New Jersey. The decision led several other supporting artists to leave the tour and sparked calls for fans to boycott Sheeran’s concerts. Macklemore, who had been one of the opening acts on Sheeran’s tour, spoke about Palestine during his September 4th performance at MetLife Stadium. He expressed support for Palestinians and performed his protest song “Hind’s Hall.” Following the performance, stadium owners refused to allow Macklemore to appear at upcoming shows, and he was removed from the remaining tour dates.

Sheeran later said that removing Macklemore was the promoter’s decision and not his own. However, the situation continued to grow after four other supporting acts announced that they were leaving the tour. Finneas, Lukas Graham, Beoga, and Aaron Rowe all withdrew, with the artists citing their support for Macklemore and the importance of freedom of expression.

The controversy also led to criticism from some fans and calls to boycott Sheeran’s concerts. Much of the backlash focused on whether artists should be able to use large concert stages to speak about political and humanitarian issues. Some supporters of Macklemore argued that removing him limited his ability to express his views, while others argued that concerts should remain focused on music rather than politics.

Sheeran initially emphasized that he wanted his concerts to be about music and unity rather than politics. However, he later addressed the situation directly during his September 19th concert in Philadelphia. He apologized for mistakes he felt he had made during the controversy and spoke about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, describing the suffering of civilians as catastrophic and unjustifiable.

The controversy has also affected the relationship between Sheeran and Macklemore. After leaving the tour, Macklemore announced a new “Free Palestine Tour” in Europe. The tour is intended to raise awareness and money for organizations supporting Palestinians. Despite the controversy, Sheeran’s Loop Tour has continued. His Philadelphia concert went ahead without its planned opening acts, and he continued performing for his fans. The situation has raised larger questions about the role of politics in music and whether artists should be able to use their platforms to speak about international conflicts.

Overall, the controversy surrounding Ed Sheeran’s tour has become about more than one artist being removed from a concert lineup. It has brought attention to questions about free expression, politics, and the responsibilities of musicians with large audiences. As Sheeran’s tour continues, the debate surrounding his decision and the removal of Macklemore remains an ongoing topic among fans and artists.
