Sochi 2014 Olympic Review

The Winter Olympics were held in Sochi, Russia.

The Winter Olympics started on February 7, 2014 with the  Opening Ceremony.

During the Opening Ceremony, one of the 5 rings did not open.

The whole world was talking about this.

At the Opening Ceremony all the countries were introduced one at a time.

There were 88 countries that participated this year.

The total number of athletes for this year’s winter Olympics was 2,873.

The Olympics officially ended on February 23, 2014 with the Closing Ceremony.

During the closing ceremony, the Russians decided to poke fun of the mishap during the opening ceremony by not having the fifth Olympic ring open again. Although in the end, the ring did open to complete the five rings.

The total number of medals awarded this year at the Olympics was 295.

As a classroom project, we were responsible for keeping track of the Olympic medal count for 3 countries.

We chose to follow The United States, Russia, and Canada.

The countries place according to which has the most gold medals.

Russia came in 1st overall the overall the countries. The final count was 33 medals, with 13 gold, 11 silver, and 9 bronze.

Not far behind them in 3rd place overall, was Canada with 10 gold, 10 silver, and 5 bronze.

The United States came in 4th place overall with 9 gold, 7 silver, and 12 bronze.

Overall, the 2014 Winter Olympics was a very exciting time for all the countries involved.
