The prospects for the East Girls’ swim team are very favorable. The season started back in mid-August, and the swimmers have been working hard every day since, both in and out of the water. With daily rigorous practices and a pool that is currently over-chlorinated, the swimmers are finally getting back into shape after summer vacation. Along with these practices, the teammates have already created numerous signs to decorate the bland natatorium walls and embellish the walls of Transit’s swimming pool, the home for East’s swimming and diving. Spirit days have been lined up since the beginning of the summer, so make sure to look out for Waldo.

The first meet is this Friday, September 12 in Hamburg. East’s MVP of the last two years Brooke Pettis will likely defend her title this year, with her finesse at the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Returning to the high school team this year, Katherine Frustaci holds great promise as a versatile swimmer, but most notably a breastroker. Lauren Anderson is setting her sights on qualifying for States this year for the 100 butterfly, along with Claire Kim. Katie Holmwood is also extremely close to qualifying for Sectionals in the 50 freestyle. Sarah Wie is also focused on qualifying for States in the 100 and 200 freestyle. Caroline Terhaar, also returning this year for the high school season, is a very powerful backstroker and freestyler. Erin Clough and Lauren Shine bring much diversity to the team with expertise in all strokes, especially backstroke and freestyle. Kiersten Maclay is also off to a strong start this season after a swift recovery from an injury last year, and she holds great potential for the diving component of the team. East’s swimming and diving team has a versatile range of skills in all swimmers, and it is looking forward to a prosperous and fruitful year.
