Everybody knows about Flavors of East, Unity day in October, Taste of East, and the 100th day of school, but did you know that Wellness Club is one of many clubs behind these events. Make sure to keep a look out for Wellness in our Flavors of East event here at East. You wouldn’t want to miss the exciting things they have planned!
Wellness partners up with other clubs at East to create a space for diversity and healthy habits. “We try to implement initiatives that help improve the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of the school community” advisor, Mr. Townsend, gym and health teacher here at East said. If you enjoy giving back to people and wanting to give back to your school and community, Wellness could be a great club and fit for you.
Wellness meets every month to talk about their club and create activities and ideas such as: baskets to give away, and donating wellness items for the people. Through fundraisers they donate to charity and ultimately discuss how they can best make Williamsville East a better place. Want to win a basket or help donate money to fundraisers? Make sure to keep your ears open for Wellness announcements or activities!
Do you remember those turkey hands that were all over school and you could put what you were grateful for on them? That was all run by Wellness, doing things behind the scenes. Creating little things like this truly does have an impact even if it is only for one person. Writing down what you are grateful for on those hands made students sit and truly think about how much they have to be grateful for.
Siena, a member of Wellness, said, “We promote diversity on the walls with quotes to not only help East students, but a bigger part of what wellness is about, mental health.” Joining this club will ensure that members are surrounded by genuine people who want to better themselves and the people around them. “When I did a project for Wellness a few years ago, it made me feel good to do things that help make my peers happy,” Talia, another member of Wellness, said. Advisor Mrs. Gregory, one of East’s guidance counselors, said she became an advisor because she feels very passionate about the ideals and goals that the club represents.
