A face painted off-white (the color of a clown) and an obnoxiously red wig seem like the start of a bad joke, not the main villain of a new horror movie.
The movie Weapons was released on August 8th, 2025, and it is the most unique horror movie that has come out recently. Utilizing multiple points of view, the audience is revealed to different parts of the same storyline, learning more about the deeper truth with each character. The premise of this movie is that exactly at 2:17 am, seventeen children got up out of their beds, walked out their front door, and disappeared into the night.
With a few chilling, suspenseful scenes, chair-gripping jump scares, and belly-deep laughs, this is the epitome of a movie that can make you feel anything. Driven by compelling narratives and perspectives that reveal a little more than the last, this is a captivating movie until the very end. Humor is sprinkled in through the characters, like a lost drug addict who stumbled upon a large secret, or through the surprisingly light-hearted ending.
The soundtrack of this movie fits perfectly into its suspenseful vibe, with deep drum beats increasing the anticipation. The cinematography is also a wonderful aspect of this movie, as the camera’s point of view shifts with each character, fully placing the audience in a different mindset. Furthermore, it emphasizes the small-town, ominous atmosphere needed for this movie. However, the most outstanding detail is the acting. The strong cast, including Julia Garner from Ozark, Josh Brolin from No Country for Old Men, Benedict Wong from Doctor Strange, and more, portrayed the gruesome storyline with compelling emotions. Through these characters, we couldn’t help but need to find out the truth of what happened to the kids.
I would recommend this movie to people who are comfortable in the horror genre, but also to those who love thrillers. If someone is new to the genre of horror, I would also recommend this movie to them, as it was more suspenseful than having many jump-scares, and it also had comical aspects to lighten the mood.
