This year’s annual Thanksgiving food drive has been an undeniable success, as East collected and donated over 1,000 non-perishable food items for families in need so that they could enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. The sophomores pulled through by donating 293 cans, overcoming all other classes; runners up are the seniors with 223, juniors with 188, faculty and staff at 186, and freshmen last at 159. Items could be donated to the boxes in the business wing or in front of the main office from October 31-November 17th.

Prize money was awarded to the class who had brought in the most items at the end of every week, up until the food drive came to a close. Daily announcements were fresh reminders to bring in items—thank you, Mrs. Mahaney, for overseeing that—and the classic music intro that came along with it.

During the last couple days of the drive, students from Youth Leadership marched around the school with turkey crowns or dressed as turkeys, moseying through classrooms and playing the “food drive theme song” the entire time. Student volunteers then helped package meals together, organize canned food items, and deliver the boxes to local organizations at North Presbyterian Church.

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and participated; without you, this food drive would not have been such a success.
