The 2022 January Regents Examinations have been canceled due to the increase in COVID cases and worsening pandemic.

Education Commissioner Betty Rosa said in a statement on December 21st: “New York set a daunting record last week with more COVID-19 cases reported in one day than ever before. Once again, the January Regents Exams cannot be safely, equitably, and fairly administered across the state. We will continue to work with our schools, districts, and stakeholders to ensure they have what they need to provide academic, social and emotional, and mental health supports for our students.”

Like in previous years, those who would have needed to take the January examinations to complete a course have been exempted from passing the exam.

With the cancellation of Regents Week, the week scheduled for midterms at East has been canceled as well. Classes will be held on the four days that midterms would have been held; most teachers’ original plans for midterm week will have to be modified. Some classes may hold their midterms during the original timeframe, while others have scrapped their midterms altogether.
