This is it. The moment that everyone is waiting for. I finally now get to, rather vaguely, talk about a film long anticipated on such a massive scale. After 11 years of 21 films, everything has led up to this. And some way, Marvel Studios and directors Anthony and Joe Russo manage to make all of the build-up worth it. This is Avengers: Endgame.
After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe.
This review is going to be entirely spoiler-free because I got the Russos’ and the entire Marvel crew’s memo of #Don’tSpoilTheEndgame, so you will have to see the film for yourself. Avengers: Endgame is not just one of the best films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one of the best superhero films ever made. Even with its intimidating looking run time of 3 hours, the film has you invested in the high stakes from start to finish and feeling the entire emotional spectrum. The story has everything you want out of a Marvel movie and delivers and goes beyond on all of those fronts. The script by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely has plenty of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat when you think it’s going to go one way, but surprises you and goes another, which is much appreciated. The action sequences are fantastically crafted with amazing visual effects with the final showdown in the third act going all out. The humor is on point and delivers some really great jokes with characters like Ant-Man, the Hulk and Rocket Raccoon being particular scene-stealers. This has to be the most emotional Marvel film to date, down to the point where it makes Avengers: Infinity War look like a walk in the park. All of the actors give fantastic performances delivering on their jokes and emotional beats extremely well with standouts like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin. Plenty of other fan-favorite characters that were not affected by the events in the last film show up and are used well. I really don’t have any major negatives or nitpicks to say which means that the film is just that good.
Overall, Avengers: Endgame is one of, if not, the best film that Marvel Studios has ever crafted. Everything about the film is just perfect, from the performances, the script, action, humor, fan-service, and everything makes for an unforgettable experience. If you are a long-time fan of the MCU since the beginning or have seen plenty of the films, what are you waiting for? Just go see it! And if you’ve already seen it, go see it again if you really want. Even though this is a Marvel movie, you don’t have to stay during the credits as there are no post-credits scenes, but I do recommend staying for the first part of the credits as it gives a fantastic tribute to everyone involved throughout the movies, but when the screen cuts to black with white text, then it’s okay for you to go. I’m going to give Avengers: Endgame a 10/10 with the Edward’s Seal of Approval and my highest recommendation.
