Student Council Officer Elections

The end of the school year marks election season for a variety of clubs. From National Honor Society to Class Office, students across the building are preparing to run for office.

One organization that is currently holding officer elections is Student Council, or STUCO. In past years, there have been only four available positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. However, this year marks the beginning of a new and exciting change with the addition of a fifth role: the Public Relations Officer.

During the March STUCO meeting, which included all officers and Homeroom Representatives, it was unanimously decided to create this new role. The Public Relations Manager will assume some of the secretary’s responsibilities, focusing specifically on promoting events and increasing student engagement. This includes posting on Instagram, designing Canva flyers, and potentially reviving the club’s TikTok account. With the addition of this role, STUCO aims to produce more frequent content and better promote school and club events such as Homecoming, the Olympics, and Gingerbread House Decorating.

If you are interested in running for Student Council, please see Ms. Putzer or Ms. Constanzo immediately to receive an election packet with rules and guidelines. Students may run for any of the five positions. To be eligible, candidates must first collect approximately 60 signatures, including 15 from each of the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes, approval from seven faculty members, and signatures from all four administrators.

After submitting the packet, candidates are required to create a poster and video, which will both be posted on STUCO’s Instagram page, displayed on the Commons’ TV, and posted on WITS. Voting will take place on Friday, May 1st, during the school day via WITS, and will be open to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Election results will then be announced at the end of the day.

As current Student Council Treasurer, I strongly encourage everyone to consider running for office. In the past year, I’ve gotten more comfortable with public speaking, and have developed both communication and organizational skills. I am also very grateful for the people I have met through STUCO, with many being people I wouldn’t have known otherwise. Serving as an officer is a great way to become involved in school activities, and I strongly advise everyone to give it a try!
