And so, it goes: Taylor Swift, the 14-time Grammy winner, has achieved another milestone in her life. In a flower-filled garden at Travis Kelce’s Missouri home, the singer-songwriter said yes to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. On August 26, 2025, the couple announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post—captioned “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married”—that quickly became one of the most-liked images of the year.
Swift’s engagement ring is a piece of art in itself: a vintage-inspired, antique-cut diamond on an engraved yellow gold band. Custom-designed with jeweler Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, the diamond is valued at anywhere from $250,000 to $5 million, depending on carat weight, with some outlets estimating the stone at 10 carats.
Swift’s future father-in-law, Ed Kelce, revealed that Travis actually proposed “oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago.” “They were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine.’ … They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed Kelce told WEWS. “They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.” Both families appear overjoyed at the news, with both Scott Swift and Ed Kelce, the couple’s fathers, having even egged them on to move the proposal further up. Travis’s brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, partook in the celebrations. While discussing the news on their podcast, New Heights, he exclaimed, “YEAH! The proposal heard ’round the world! F—k yeah!”
The couple’s nearly two-year romance is something out of a movie…or, more fittingly, an early Taylor Swift album. Swift and Kelce’s love story began in the summer of 2023, when Kelce tried and failed to give Swift a bracelet with his phone number on it during her Eras Tour. Later in a Times magazine interview, Swift later called the move “metal as hell.”
Swift joked of Travis, “He threw a tantrum. He threw a man-tantrum. It was such a wild romantic gesture to be like, ‘I want to date you!’ This dude didn’t get a meet-and-greet, and he’s making it everyone’s problem. That’s what I thought at first.” But his determination gave her a change of heart. During her feature on the New Heights podcast, Swift compared his determination to meet her to an ’80s John Hughes movie. It was like someone “standing outside my window with a boombox, like, ‘I want to date you!’ Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet! Do you want to date me?’”
By that fall, they officially debuted to the public as a couple, with Swift making appearances at Chiefs games and Travis jetting out for Eras Tour performances. Behind the scenes, however, the pair had been quietly spending time together. Swift later revealed that “We got to get to know each other for a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for.”
And that’s how it worked; that’s how Travis Kelce got the girl of his WILDEST dreams!
