Although homecoming is now at its end, the first semester isn’t; there are still many activities and events to look forward to and get involved in.
- PTSA’s Farmer’s Market
Held during the week of October 16, the PTSA will host the first farmers market of the year. Running from 2nd-9th period in student street, students can purchase muffins, fresh apple slices, vegetables, cheeses, and pita bread with peanut butter, humus, and different dips. Price ranges are usually around $0.25-$1.50, so don’t forget to bring some cash!
- Halloween Costume Contest
STUCO will be hosting its annual Halloween Costume contest once again on the 31st. DM photos of you and your costume to @wehsstuco on Instagram for a chance to win a prize! Students will also have a chance to wear their costumes in school on the 31st as well (no masks, fake weapons, or props allowed).
- Music Department Concerts
Throughout the end of October, the music department will be performing their pieces: all of band, orchestra, and choral will set the stage for a spectacular show. There will be a choral concert on October 19th, a band concert on October 24th, and an orchestra concert on October 26. In addition, Chorus will be holding a side-by-side concert with Transit students on October 30th. All concerts will be held in the auditorium and will start at 7 p.m. sharply; volunteers will be needed for all concerts. Come support East’s music department and the new band teacher, Mr. Buckley.
- Coffeehouse
Newspaper Club will be hosting their first coffeehouse of the year on the evening of November 3rd in the Commons. We will be having Italian Night; a variety of pastas, sauces and Italian sweets will be served, prices between $0.50-$4.00. Come for food, karaoke, open mic, and a chance to hang out with your friends. More information will be coming soon, so stay tuned!
- Fall Poetry Reading
East’s Literary Digest will be hosting their annual fall poetry reading on November 16th, featuring poet Ben Brindise. Students will have the chance to write poems and present them during the reading; check in with Mr. Huber or one of the club officers–Angelina Tang, Pen Fang, and Isabella Gu–for more information!
- Fall Play: Peter Pan
This year’s fall play is Peter Pan, the reimagined classic brought to you by drama club. Starring Phoebe Auqier as Peter Pan and Elizabeth Buckingham as Wendy Darling, this year’s play will be nlike before. Come watch this phenomenal performance on November 8th and 9th, tickets will be sold at the door. Stay tuned for any more updates, and we hope to see you all there for your support!
- Thanksgiving Food Drive
Once again, STUCO will host the annual thanksgiving food drive between October 21st and November 17th. Classes will compete with each other on the amount of canned food they bring, winners getting all the glory and bragging rights. Bring in any non-perishable foods to the business office or by the main office to help your class bring home the win.
- Winterfest 49
The biggest musical event at East: Winterfest! Right before the start of winter break, East’s music department puts on the biggest show yet, featuring acts from band, orchestra, and choral, as well as small groups! Talk to a teacher in the music wing if you and your group are interested in performing! Auditions will be held on November 27th, right after Thanksgiving break.
- Library Prizes
Happening monthly all throughout the year: the new library prizes. Each month, a new challenge will pop up in the library, and whoever wins (or the closest to win) gets a $10 Starbucks gift card. Check in with Mrs. Weber if you’re interested or want to find out more!
- Breaks!
With holidays coming to a near, so are breaks! In honor of Veteran’s Day, school will be closed on Friday, November 10th; please treat this day with respect and don’t just take advantage of the fact that you have a day off. Thanksgiving recess will start this year on November 22nd until the end of the week; classes will resume on Monday, November 27. For the holidays, the last day of school will be December 22nd, and we will return to school on Tuesday, January 2nd. Take the time off, relax, hang out with friends and enjoy the holidays!
