A club solely dedicated to sharing music, Music Appreciation is a place where enthusiasts can come together and discuss a variety of songs filtered by a variety of topics. Meeting every Friday from 2:50-3:30 in the band room (with the mastermind Mr. McCluskey hosting), students can unwind, eat food, and just appreciate the music that’s playing.

A typical meet goes something like this: members come in and get their snacks, we sit down near the T.V., and whoever wants to get up and share their songs will do so, playing it on the screen and providing a brief explanation as to why they chose that song. Songs are based on themes—whether they be ‘songs by the decades’ or ‘guilty pleasures’—which are the “guiding point” of what will be played. Once that part of the song is over, you do the classic fade out; slowly lower the volume until it is dead silent. Other than that, you just sit back, relax, provide a little commentary here and there, and maybe even get more snacks. This isn’t–nor ever will be–a strict club. Come when you can, share the songs that you want, and just have fun. Music Appreciation was created so that students can come and enjoy music while being in an environment of other avid enthusiasts. You don’t have to be from any department, or a song historian (knowing every single popular band before the 90’s), to be able to enjoy the experience. Sometimes you’re going to love the songs, get new favorites added to playlists, and other times you’ll have no strong feelings for it at all.

Take it from some of the old members from last year: “Being able to share your favorite songs and appreciate other people’s taste in music is a great thing, a fun experience.” “Getting together with these guys [old members] was just fun, I got to meet the amazing Colleen Meosky, and just getting to share songs was a great opportunity too; you don’t have many clubs here that are like that.”

At the end of the day, Music Appreciation is a chance for you to come and appreciate some songs every Friday in the band room, headed by Mr. McCluskey.
