Formerly a member of One Direction, Niall Horan is back in action! After not returning from the band’s hiatus in January 2016, the boys began to work on their solo careers. Horan released his first solo debut album, Flicker, in October 2017. The Irish singer’s catchy voice, genuine lyrics, and strong fan base set him up for success. His second album, called Heartbreak Weather, was released right before the pandemic. It was very successful, topping charts worldwide. Due to the pandemic, the tour for this album was canceled, and Horan remained to himself. However, recently, this has changed.
Through TikTok, Horan began teasing his latest single, “Heaven”. He provided us initially with clips of just the introduction instrumentals and then teased the chorus soon after. During this period, Niall started promoting a website called “Heaven Won’t Be the Same”. We later learned that this title was a lyric from this new single. This website had a candle that was melting. Fans soon speculated that the single would release once this candle had finished melting. During this time, Horan began sending out replicas of this candle to fans randomly. Horan then announced that the song would be released February 17th. A day before the single release, he announced his new album, The Show. The album will be released on June 9th.
Horan’s single, “Heaven”, was instantly a fan favorite. This song focuses on his infatuation with a significant other. Horan expresses his love through lyrics such as “Beyond infatuation/ How I obsessively adore you”. He claims that once their “love starts to grow out of control”, they could even go up in flames, and still “heaven won’t be the same”.
Although he has yet to announce a tour, Horan will be participating in many festivals this summer. In May, he will be performing at the Boston Calling Festival. He will also be performing in many other festivals throughout the summer including Pinkpop, Isle of Wight Festival, Electric Picnic, and Lollapalooza Paris.
