Welcome back, East! Although back-to-school means back to the grind of courses, exams, extracurriculars, sports games, music, and more, it’s also packed with lots of fun events.

Homecoming

In just a few weeks is East’s Homecoming! This year’s theme is “The Goblet of Fire” from Harry Potter! Each grade level will represent a different house: Freshmen will be Hufflepuff, Sophomores will be Ravenclaw, Juniors will be Slytherin, and Seniors will be Gryffindor. Some of the best parts of Homecoming include the themed days, pep rallies, the dance, and other events scattered throughout the week. Below is a brief synopsis of this year’s Homecoming week:

  1. Monday, 10/5, will be Class T-Shirt/House Day. If you bought a class t-shirt, this is the day to wear it! If not, you can wear your class color: freshmen are yellow, sophomores are light blue/grey, juniors are black/green, and seniors are red. There’ll be a revised bell schedule for a pep rally after 9th period in the gym.
  2. Tuesday, 10/6, will be Twin/Triplet Day, inspired by the Weasley twin! So grab a friend or two, and coordinate an outfit together!
  3. Wednesday, 10/7, will be Muggles vs. Wizards day. Dress up as any character/thing from Harry Potter, and  if you don’t, you’re a muggle! After school, there will also be a Ping Pong tournament in the Commons. If you haven’t yet already, sign up to play single or with another friend using the google form on WITS!
  4. Thursday, 10/8, will be Quidditch Cup Day. Wear your favorite jersey or sports gear! At 5pm, make sure to pop in for the annual Powder Puff flag football game, and after that, enjoy some food to support East’s amazing clubs along with the bonfire at the Taste of East.
  5. Friday, 10/9, will be East Spirit Day. Wear red and gold to show your school spirit! There’ll be a pep rally after 9th period in the gym as well. At 7pm is the football game, so be sure to come out and support our East Flames!
  6. Saturday, 10/10, is the Homecoming Dance! It’s from 6-9pm at the East gym with food provided by the PTSA. Tickets cost $15, so be sure to buy them!

Taste Of East

Taste of East is one of the many exciting events during Homecoming week and takes place alongside the big bonfire. This year, it will be held on Thursday, October 8, following the flag football game at around 6 p.m. in the side teacher parking lot near the art room.

At Taste of East, many of East’s clubs and organizations set up tables offering all kinds of food, activities, and other items. While food is definitely the main attraction, there is also more to check out, including East themed merch like the famous fire glasses as well as the fan-favorite henna by the Unity & Diversity Club. Make sure to come early if you want to try Mrs. Wagar’s famous pasta from Italian Club because it runs out quickly!

In past years, Taste of East has also featured food trucks, such as the Cheesy Chick’s truck selling their famous mac and cheese sandwiches. Make sure to bring cash because buying food from the club tables works a little differently. First, head to the Student Council table, typically set up on the lawn, where you can exchange your cash for tickets. You can then use those tickets to buy food and other goodies from the different tables. Keep in mind that food trucks do not accept these tickets, so you will need to pay them separately with cash or card.

With tons of food, activities, and school spirit alongside the bonfire, Taste of East is definitely not an event to miss. Grab some friends, come hungry, and make sure to stop by and support our school’s clubs!
