East Celebrates Valentine’s Day
Happy Valentine’s Day, East! February 14th is the iconic day of love, chocolate, teddy bears, and red roses galore. In honor of that, we at the East Side News conducted a survey regarding the holiday. Here is what we’ve found.
Athlete of the Week: January
In an exceptional week of athletic achievements, two standout athletes from Williamsville East High School have secured the coveted title of Athletes of the Week. Bella Ascone, a track and field star, showcased her talent by setting two personal records in consecutive days, while Roman Tedeschi, a swimmer of immense talent, earned his recognition by qualifying for the NYS Championship Meet and breaking a pool record.
Muffin Mondays with the Senior Class
Starting Monday, January 21st, the Class of 2024 officers have been holding Muffin Mondays, where muffins are sold before and after school in the commons. Flavors include chocolate chip, blueberry, and lemon poppyseed. Muffins are $1.00 each. All proceeds will go to funding the senior class’s prom in June

The WEHS Flames: Dangerous When Wet
The Girls Swim Team was 9-0, ECIC Division II champions, Class B champions, and 5th in the state overall. Coach Chris Miller says that “this has been the most successful season in Williamsville East’s 50+ year history.”
Another Thanksgiving Food Drive Success
This year’s annual Thanksgiving food drive has been an undeniable success, as East collected and donated over 1,000 non-perishable food items for families in need so that they could enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.
Sources of Strength “Fall Colors Week” Recap
The week before Thanksgiving break, Sources of Strength sponsored a “Fall Colors Week” to raise awareness for the positive sources of strengths we have in our lives!
A Day in Verse: The Fall Poetry Reading with Ben Brindise
On Thursday, November 16, the annual Fall Poetry Reading was held in the auditorium during 6th and 7th period with guest poet Ben Brindise hosting. The Reading was a unique experience as Brindise roused the audience with his passionate delivery and enthusiasm for the student readers’ work.
The Stacked Winterfest Line-Up
The beginning of December marks the start of the holiday season, meaning our annual Winterfest concert is just around the corner! For those of you who don’t know, Winterfest is typically a two-night holiday concert where all of the bands, orchestras, and choruses join together to perform full ensemble, small group, and solo performances, including a prelude performance in the Commons prior to the start of the concert. However, this year, Winterfest was cut down to only one night, meaning auditions to perform were more competitive than ever. Only a few select groups and soloists were chosen to perform alongside the full ensembles to make Winterfest a magical success this year!
Mamma Mia! – East’s New Musical
Get ready for musical season, East! Our spring of 2024 musical will be Mamma Mia, a production using ABBA’s greatest hits to tell the story of Sophie, a 20-year-old girl trying to find out who her father is at her wedding on a Greek island. It’s fun, it’s upbeat, and the show will surely be stunning.
