Commons Cafe A Success

FBLA’s Commons Cafe returned for the second time this year–with a twist. The well-loved items of last month like cappuccinos, coffee, tea, and oatmeal remained this time, but one new item was added: ramen.

A popular instant meal, ramen was invented in 1900s Japan as a true noodle dish; some time after, it evolved to precooked, dehydrated soup noodles that could be revitalized with hot water. The FBLA Commons Cafe served it as the special of the week this time, replacing last time’s special of oatmeal. There were two flavors: chicken and beef.

The dish was popular among the student body. According to one of the workers at the cafe, FBLA sold approximately forty cups a day.  In general, people liked it and would purchase again.

Most notable about this café was the fact that FBLA members used an iPad app, Register, to monitor purchases. The usefulness of the iPad has often been disputed as of late, and FBLA co-present Zachary Richheimer decided that he could find a creative use for the new technology. Instead of checking off which products were sold each period to keep track of profits and popularity of items, café workers would input this information onto a school iPad and reports could be created instantly.

Overall, the Commons Cafe was a success once more, running smoothly with no incidents. It should be returning in March with a new special.
