The East girl’s lacrosse team has had a very successful, and fun season this year. With a record of 9 and 7, they managed to win a lot while still making time for fun. They are known for many fun spirits including wearing their jerseys, jungle theme, business attire, blackout, beach theme, and their personal favorite Adam Sandler. Because of how much they enjoy being with each other off the field, they have even better chemistry when playing together. The team also has many traditions that include doing team spirit before games, braiding each other’s hair, doing hair tinsel before playoff games as well as jamming out to the team’s favorite music on bus rides. Junior Natalia Mantione says that she is nervous for the program next year because the team is losing lots of strong seniors, although she believes in their coach and the juniors will help the team be just as good as they were this year next year!  Three of those seniors, Vanessa Willick, Carly Coia, and captain Vivian Rung will be continuing their lacrosse careers in college next year. After winning the Section last year, they were moved up to Conference 1 meaning that this season would not be as easy as the last. This year the team played harder teams including Lancaster, Clarence, and Frontier and were able to put up a great fight with the majority of these teams. Having a more challenging season gave them a lot more experience and while it meant their record would not be as good, they were better off because of it. The team was able to make it to semifinals for the only the third time in school history and come out on top with a win. Unfortunately their season came to an end after a hard fought battle in the championship game against their biggest rivals, Grand Island. The girls are looking forward to doing off season work in preparation for next season in order to reclaim their title as Section VI Class C Champions. Congratulations to the 2022 Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team on a very successful season. We look forward to seeing all that you accomplish in 2023.
