Unity in Diversity is a performance club with a goal of showcasing the cultural diversity of East’s community. Their all-school assembly on March 29th will consist of 20 acts from 13 different countries, with new countries being Philippines, Palestine, Denmark, Argentina, and Nigeria. Co-advisor Mrs. Korn said that along with more diversity of the countries performing, there’s diversity in the type of performances, having vocal, instrumental, and dancing performances.

The show, however, is nothing without committed members who perform for the school. Treasurer and group leader Pen Fang has been a member for two years. They’re participating in acts from Korea, China, India, Nigeria, and Philippines this year. When asked about their favorite part of the show, they said, “Personally, I love grinding at dance practices. It’s super fulfilling for me to keep going, practicing, and see dances come together.”

Member Medha Samala has been in the club for two years and is part of the Upperclassmen Bollywood and Garba groups this year. Her favorite part is the thrilling feeling she gets participating in the “chaos and commotion” of the show. Having experience with Indian dancing in the past, she likes that she “gets to dance with her friends” and finds it enjoyable to do it in school.

Throughout the year, the club has held fundraisers like bake sales to help fund the show in March. An upcoming fundraiser is a map fundraiser during March where students put a sticker on a world map to represent where they’re from. This fundraiser truly aligns with the goal of the club by showing how diverse the school community is.
