For the first time in 34 years, an Iranian president had a conversation with an American president. The minor phone call lasted 15 minutes, but symbolically ended years of international strife and conflict. In addition, he posted the conversation on twitter, a website just recently made legal in Iran. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has been seen as a reformer compared to his predecessors. He has offered to stop Iran’s nuclear program in return for an end to the crippling economic sanctions that have plagued Iran, and tweeted that solving the nuclear issue could help with other issues in the region, including Syria’s chemical weapons.
However, the new president has not been completely out of controversy. Â When he landed in Tehran, protestors reportedly threw eggs and a shoe at him.
