Mid-November at East only means one thing: the annual fall play. This year’s play is “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” The storyline revolves around a superstitious teacher named Ichabod Crane, who desires to marry Katrina Van Tassel in order to control her father’s rich farm. But along with Ichabod is Brom Bones who also seeks Katrina’s hand in marriage.

One evening, Ichabod attends a party at the Van Tassel farm, where Brom Bones is also there. Following the dance and music, the elders tell a story about the “Headless Horseman,” the ghost of a soldier from the American Revolution who lost his head, and continues to look for his head today. As Ichabod leaves the party, he begins to become fearful and worried as he rides back home on his horse alone and in the dark. Until suddenly on the road, he encounters what looks to be a headless horseman. Is it truly the Headless Horseman from the legend? Or could it be someone impersonating it, seeking revenge against Ichabald?

“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” explores the unreliability of the narrator and the power of superstition–it’s these themes that make it a true nail-biter.

Drama club will present this play on November 13th and 14th, so be sure to stay on the lookout for tickets if you’re interested in seeing your fellow classmates perform!
