Here we are again. Another Brady vs Mahomes matchup, this time on an even bigger stage than last time. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest events of the year, and we had two of the best teams in the NFL face off this past Sunday: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their suffocating defense versus the Kansas City Chiefs and their high flying offense, a battle that will go down in history. The game started off slowly like any other football game; the Chiefs scored first with a field goal after 2 stalled out drives with the Tamps struggling on offense as well, going 2 and 0 on the first two drives of the game. Finally, Brady found Rob Gronkowski for a 10 yard score late in the first quarter making it 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, the Bucs started gaining some momentum in the game. The second drive in the quarter, the Bucs went marching down the field and, you guessed it, Brady found Gronkowski again in the back of the endzone, putting both Brady and Gronk down in the record books for most touchdowns by any duo in the NFL playoffs ever with a grand total of 14.
The Chiefs really started to struggle on offense, really getting nothing going in the second quarter besides a field goal. Then once Brady got the ball back with a minute and 30 seconds left in the half, Brady marched down the field to find future Hall of Famer Antonio Brown in the endzone to end the half and go up on the Chiefs 21-6; it was not looking good at this point for Kansas City. Tampa’s defense was just suffocating Patrick Mahomes all through the game. In the 3rd quarter, Kansas City still was without a touchdown. This Tampa defense just was too much for Patrick Mahomes. Now late in the 3rd quarter Leonard Fournette #28 for the Bucs ran in a 30 yard touchdown to make the game 31-9 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Chiefs were just looking for a miracle, which did not happen; the Tampa defense pressured Mahomes on every snap of the game.
Mahomes ran 500 yards in the game behind the line of scrimmage. Tom Brady, at the age of 43, won his 7th Super Bowl and his 4th Super Bowl MVP completing 21-29 passes on 201 yards and 3 passing touchdowns. Mahomes on the other hand struggled all game to get the ball moving, not scoring a touchdown all game. That hasn’t happened since Mahomes got the starting job in 2018, and that was also Mahomes’ biggest loss of his career points wise. All and all, Brady will go down as the greatest quarterback of all time, claiming his throne as Super Bowl champion once again.
