Today, DNC chairman Tom Perez announced that former three term Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold will be the party’s nominee for the 2020 election.  Perez explained that due to the failure of former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders to secure a majority of delegates the DNC will have to pick a candidate that will bridge the gap between the two candidates.  And Perez thinks that Feingold will be a fantastic nominee for the Democratic Party.

Russ Feingold said today that he was very honored to get the nomination and would bring forth a bold progressive agenda.  Feingold has been noted for campaign finance reform while in the Senate which culminated in McCain-Feingold. Feingold was also the lone vote against the Patriot Act in 2001.  Feingold was one of the most progressive senators while he was in the Senate.

Biden and Sanders have both pledged to support Feingold.  New polls have Feingold leading Donald Trump in crucial swing states such as Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Feingold’s home state of Wisconsin by significant margins.  Feingold is also leading Trump by three points in the state of Texas. Donald Trump has considered dropping out of the race to avoid a landslide that seems inevitable now.

Russ Feingold is rumored to choose Bernie Sanders as his running mate.  Feingold has already been endorsed by Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and an Elvis Impersonator.  It seems inevitable that Feingold will be sworn in as President of the United States on January 20th, 2021.
