The girl’s tennis team has had their best season ever. The girl’s team went from winning the Section to driving to New York City to compete in the States tennis tournament. This season will be one to remember, and let’s take a look at how they reached their point in qualifying and making it to states.

The Girl’s team had lost the section to the Clarence girls’ tennis team from the previous season, making the team motivated to win the Section this year and to come on top of Clarence. The team went undefeated during the season but underwent a close loss to Clarence during the season during the first Clarence vs East Match. The girl’s team made an enormous comeback to defeat Clarence in the Section finals, winning the Section. “It was a lot of pressure and it was very tense, but we fought it through and managed to take the win,” says Mega Pendayala: sophomore and doubles player on the team. Winning the Section meant a lot for the team, especially since they lost the Section to the Clarence team the previous year. This win led them to move forward to competing against Menden for the spot to go to New York, and compete in the States tournament. The Girls played their best tennis to defeat the Mendem team 5-2, thus landing them a spot in States. The States tournament was held in Flushing, New York, at the US Open Tennis Courts. The girls had the tough end of the draw, having to play the #1 seed in the first round: Scarsdale. The girls lost to them first round, but had an amazing season reaching that point of making it to States, and it will be a season they will never forget. Sophia Chung: Junior, and doubles player on the team, recounted: “I am so grateful to be part of such an amazing team and for a once-in-a-lifetime experience with them. Rooming with Tabitha and Grace (fellow teammates) will especially always be a favorite memory”. Going to the US Open Courts in states has truly made a lasting impression on the girls. Senior, and team captain: Sarah Qui, will miss being part of the team, saying “ This senior season couldn’t have gone any better! I’ve had such amazing experiences at individual states for the past four years, and the team becoming state semi-finalists this year was the cherry on top. It was an honor leading these girls, and I will miss it greatly!”

The Girls Tennis team proved a lot this year, and we are all eager for some more great tennis next season.
