East’s Library is one of the few parts of our school left untouched by major renovations in recent years. That changes this year, as Mrs. Weber is happy to announce that we will soon be getting a full library renovation! Over the next five years, our library will be upgraded into a world-class center for education and student enrichment. From new tech to a redesigned layout, here is a brief overview of what you can expect to see.
To start, East’s library will be getting a new media studio. Students, classes, and after-school clubs will be able to create their own podcasts, record videos, and film cinematic works. The studio will be equipped with state of the art recording equipment suitable for everything from group projects to career explorations in content creation. This is Mrs. Weber’s favorite part of the renovation, and students eagerly await the possibility of a weekly Mrs. Weber talk show.
A room redistribution is planned too: underused rooms around the school can be transformed into quiet spaces for studying. From this, we’re hoping to see a new focus room, an isolated room for students who need a quiet space to study or nap. An upgraded collaboration area is on the vision board too: a new area with more tables for working on group projects collaboratively (this will be separate from the existing Maker Space, which will also be present in the finished library). The room redistribution hopes to create a space for all activities, whether that’s completing a group project together or taking a long nap because you only got three hours of sleep.
In addition, new light fixtures will use more energy-efficient and human-centric LED lighting, reducing energy consumption by 50-70%. Beyond the environmental benefits, these improvements will create a brighter, more comfortable atmosphere that supports students’ energy levels throughout the school day. Sustainability and student well-being are always important considerations for the school, and the library renovation hopes to reflect both priorities.
The student body is collectively really excited about the news. Senior Snigdha C. shared her excitement for the focus room, “for people too tired to work, it’s a nice place to rest, rewind, take a nap, and not be in a really loud place as high schoolers tend to be very sleep deprived already.” After years of sleeping through class, students may finally have a designated place to do it.
In summary, this is a very exciting project that could revolutionize the East library experience, bringing a much more focused educational experience to all students. Mrs. Weber is very passionate about the renovation, stating that “You guys work very hard, and I think you all deserve the best.” The project will be voted on by the administration in May, so talk to Mrs. Weber if you have any feedback or ideas!
