Take the opportunity to help out the less fortunate this fall by participating in the canned food drive and dance organized by Youth Leadership classes.  Bins for the canned food are located in the hallway between the main office and guidance, with one bin for each class and the faculty.  The class that donates the most food will receive a pizza at their next Steering Committee meeting.  Canned vegetables, cranberries, fruits, gravy, potatoes, boxes of mashed or sweet potatoes, stuffing, and brownie or muffin mixes are necessary.  Donated food will go to local families and not-for-profit organizations such as the Amherst Senior Centre, Hispanics United of Buffalo, the Citizens Community Development Corporation, and the Loaves and Fishes food pantry.  This food drive is organized by the Turkey Basket project, and allows up to 550 families to have a Thanksgiving dinner.  The goal is to donate 2,013 cans to the less fortunate, and the deadline for these cans is Friday, November 22nd, so make sure to get your cans in!

If you decide not to donate, you can still help out by attending the Twisting for Turkeys dance in the gym on Tuesday, November 19th from 3:00 to 3:30.  Tickets are two dollars and are sold at the door, and attendees are encouraged to wear sports jerseys or East apparel to show their school pride.  Proceeds from the dance will go to buying turkeys for less fortunate families in order to reach the goal of purchasing 100 turkeys.
