The girls swim team, led by Coach Doerfler and Coach Miller, ended a strong season on Tuesday, October 14th.  The team only had two losses and will be sending many of its swimmers to local championships.

The regular meet season consists of nine dual  meets, where swimmers have the chance to qualify for ECICs, Sectionals, or States if they swim faster than the cut times in their chosen events.  East faces off against Jamestown, Hamburg, Williamsville North, Clarence, Orchard Park, Frontier, Lancaster, West Seneca West, and Sweet Home in their division.  Home meets are held at Transit Middle School’s pool.  If they meet the cut times, swimmers can swim in the ECIC AA meet at Clarence in late October, the Section VI meet in ECC and the State meet at Ithaca College.

Members of the team have been enduring grueling two-hour practices since late August.  In addition to countless fast-paced sets in the pool, the swimmers also do dryland workouts that focus on increasing strength and endurance.  They also focus on refining their technique and on improving their starts and flipturns.  “Even though it’s a hard sport, it’s worth it,” said junior Katie Holmwood.

The swim team is very close-knit; many members forge new friendships during practice and at meets.  “I love all the friends I’ve made—they’re like family.  I’ll miss them so much!” said senior Erin Clough.  Says Coach Chris on the matter, “Only the cool kids swim.”

We wish the swim team all the best at ECICs, Sectionals, and States!
