The UB Bulls have been a competitive team in the NCAA for years. They have won the MAC several times and they have had great postseasons several times. They always have that one guy who they can count on to really push the team ahead and help them win games, and this year is no different. That player this year is Yazid Powell.

Yazid Powell started his collegegant career at community college, playing for the Community College of Beaver County. Yazid once had an 81 there, honoring his favorite player and idol, Kobe Bryant, who had died earlier that year. Now at UB, Yazid is shining, averaging 13 points per game and showing signs of unbelievable talent. He has had some monster games at UB, including the first of the season, where he threw down a monster dunk and showed off his athleticism. When Powell has big games, he achieves the same amount of shots he normally takes in a game; against Colgate he went 8-12 and was able to rack up 24 points.

Powell shows a great finishing ability and has elite athleticism. Could it be enough to beat Emoni Bates and Eastern Michigan this year and win the MAC? I think Powell has given UB a great chance to win the MAC, and some of the other players at UB have as well. Only time will tell, but I believe that Powell is slowly turning himself into a great player and a soon-to-be pro, whether it’s overseas or with the NBA G League. All in all, this could be one of the best athletes UB has ever seen.
