As a freshman of Williamsville East High, I’ve heard advice from teachers, students, and administrators telling me that the key to having a successful and fun time or getting the most out of the high school experience is to get involved.
Hearing that FBLA offers a variety of ways to get involved, I decided to join. I had heard about Commons Cafe and the State Leadership Conference from my brother. As a first year member of FBLA, I was not exactly sure what to expect. There was a lot of talk about FBLA, but I felt that it was not defined specifically.
However, having a brother that was a member of the club last year and having attended both of the monthly chapter meetings, I have a better idea of what to expect. FBLA seems to be a hands on organization that helps out the community while promoting the business from an early age.
At the meetings, I was very excited to find out that many of my friends also joined. The familiar faces made me feel like part of the group. Being a competitive person, I’m very interested in competing at the State Leadership Conference.
Last week, I signed up for my competitive events. Even though I’m not guaranteed a place at States, I’m still interested in seeing what I can do to help.
In the future, I’m hoping to find out more about Zinch and finish my BAA challenges. So far, I’ve done two activities. This upcoming week, I’m planning on trying to selling the various poinsettias and wreaths to offset the cost of the State Leadership Conference and participating in Chocolate Bingo.
I can say that I didn’t expect to hear that chocolate would be thrown at me with a game of bingo or that flowers helped FBLA.
On the other hand, I did expect that FBLA would be an interesting way to get involved, and
I’m glad to know that it is.
