Tragedy in Comedy

Comedy has recently had to say goodbye to not only one, but two of their very notable comedians. In mid August, we said goodbye to comedian and actor Robin Williams, after taking his own life. It was a sad day for everyone, as we all recalled his many accomplishments throughout his life. Many thought about all the movies he had been in, such as, Mrs.Doubtfire, Night at the Museum, Aladdin, and many others. While on the outside Williams seemed to be one of the happiest men you could possibly know, he had actually been battling severe depression. The whole world was saddened with the news of his passing and it is with great regret that we say goodbye to this comedic legend.

More recently, we said goodbye to another notable comedian, Joan Rivers. The 81-year old first began struggling after complications during a throat operation. The comedian stopped breathing during the operation, while a scope was being placed down her throat to check her vocal cords. After about a little more than a week of being on life support, she was taken off of it. Her daughter Melissa Rivers announced her death, on September 4, saying, “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.” Rivers was the Queen of Comedy, along with being on the show Fashion Police. She was a lively woman and that is just how she wanted to be remembered. Her funeral, while definitely sad, was attended by many friends and family, with live music being played and lovely words said about her. She will be missed by many, and this world was lucky enough to be graced by her presence while she was here. We will miss you Joan Rivers.
