Some of the track team after their win against Sweet Home.

By Megha Pendyala

On 4/16, the East track team faced West Seneca West on a Tuesday dual meet. Although our team lost, we were only defeated by 5 points with a score of 73-68. This was a huge improvement from last year, where we lost by more than 20 points. Our very own Coach Darren stated that it was very impressive and he has never seen the East team be as massive and conclusive as it is now, and he is excited to see how this season will turn out.

On 4/23, Williamsville East High School had another meet against Starpoint. Missing some of our key runners and the weather consisting of rain and wind, our team didn’t expect to win. However, the track team definitely did better than last year against Starpoint.

Recently, the East team won their first meet on April 30th against Sweet Home. Some highlights are that our pole vault school record was broken again by Avery Keenan at 10 feet and the track team had almost thirty personal records achieved by their runners, which is outstanding. Last year, we had lost to Sweet Home, but this year we won by a large margin, with the score being 91 to 49. The team owes a lot to our weight trainers Coach Camille and Coach Mike for training with the track team every Monday and Wednesday for the past few weeks, focusing on lifting weights and dynamic movements. Without them, we may not have had the great successes in this ongoing season.

Coming up, the track team has two more dual meets on Tuesdays against Amherst and Hamburg, both being home meets. Our last meet on 5/14 will be senior night, celebrating our hardworking runners who will be graduating, with some of them actually to continue running track in college. We are excited to see the outcomes for these last two meets and wish luck to the East Track Team!
