Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always loved Lego and have really loved the last two films in the franchise, The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie, even being some of my favorite animated features of the 2010’s decade. And now they are tackling one of the first original properties created by Lego themselves with the next installment in the Lego Cinematic Universe, The Lego Ninjago Movie.
The movie is about Lloyd, a 16-year-old kid in high school who is always getting bullied by the other students because he’s the son of the evil warlord Garmadon, and has a secret identity as the leader of the Secret Ninja Force and has to go on a journey with his friends to find a secret relic to defeat his dad.
The Lego Ninjago Movie is an enjoyable film that has everything you would expect from a Lego movie. The story does use some clichés in concept, but does make up for it in its execution with some good humor, fantastic action scenes, and some heartfelt moments. The animation is still fantastic using the same “computer animation that looks like stop-motion” style of the previous Lego movies. The characters are likable with some great performances from the cast including Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Zach Woods, Michael Peña, and Jackie Chan.
Overall, The Lego Ninjago Movie is an enjoyable film that is a must-see for any fan of Lego. I would recommend seeing this in theaters with your family. I’m going to give The Lego Ninjago Movie a solid 8/10.
