Last weekend, on the Lunar New Year, Taiwan was struck by its biggest earthquake since 1999, killing 116. Most of the deaths were caused by a residential building’s collapse. A resulting investigation found that it was intentionally built poorly to reduce cost. The Taiwanese government is planning to allocate 25 New Taiwan dollars for the reconstruction of affected areas. This catastrophe will hopefully teach companies the importance of safety. May those who died in this earthquake rest in peace.
