A game that came out I’m sure many people have heard of is Super Mario Odyssey. The game was made by Nintendo but I’m sure you all knew that already, cause it is Mario and everyone knows Mario. I was lucky enough to play it and here’s what I think.
Super Mario Odyssey sadly does not have too much of a story. It’s the same old Mario, Peach gets kidnapped, Mario has to save her. The only real new fact is this time Bowser wants to force Peach into marriage (I know a long shot from old Mario). The player or Mario, one in the same, was hurt by Bowser in the first confrontation and got his hat destroyed. Mario lands in a Kingdom full of ghostly hats and one of the ghosts becomes Mario’s new hat. The reason the hat started helping was Bowser also kidnapped Cappy’s sister (Cappy is the hat) and Bowser is making Cappy’s sister be Peach’s Tiara for the wedding.
The gameplay of Super Mario Odyssey is tremendous with a whole new feel. The game has hints of one of my old favorite games Super Mario Sunshine because it has the same movement controls and that’s mostly it, everything else is new. My all time favorite part of Odyssey is that you switch between good old 8 bit Mario and the current version of Mario. Another new aspect that is also revolutionary is that when Mario throws Cappy at certain creatures Mario will become that Creature giving it blue eyes, a red hat, and Mario’s mustache. Giving the player a whole new aspect to think about like “so in order for me to get there I need to get this guy so I can use him to get there” and that is fun. Imagine going around looking at a creature and wondering “can I become that” and behold you are now a 2 foot tall Goomba.
In conclusions, Super Mario Odyssey is a tremendous game taking bits and pieces from previous games. I rate it 9/10 game controllers for having a stunning change of gameplay and a really great open world esque feel, doesn’t hurt that is has a great soundtrack. My only issue with the game is that it relied very heavily on the taking over enemies, but hey, that’s part of the fun.
