It is safe to say that 2017 could be the best year for comic book movies since probably ever. The big names in the industry like Marvel and DC have been pumping out hit after hit this year with The LEGO Batman Movie, Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Wonder Woman. The hit streak still is going strong when Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios decided to team up to bring us the 3rd interpretation (3 interpretations in 15 years is really jumping the shark!) of the friendly neighborhood web-slinger and the 16th feature film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student with fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man as a new threat, Vulture, emerges in New York City.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the best Spider-Man film since the first film by Sam Raimi in 2002. This movie has a highly engaging story that has your usual Marvel dose of intense action and great laughs, and I found myself relating to Peter Parker when we see him as an ordinary student in high school. Another thing I appreciate about the story is that it didn’t do the stuff that was done to death in every previous Spider-Man movie like having a villain that wasn’t in a previous movie, the famous “with great power comes great responsibility” speech, killing off Uncle Ben, and Peter getting bitten by a radioactive spider. Each character had a purpose to the story and were really likable with the actors delivering on the performances most notably Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/Vulture, Jon Favreau as Happy, Jacob Balaton as Peter’s best friend Ned, who is a show-stealer whenever he’s on screen, and of course I would never forget Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man who doesn’t overshadow the movie as some people may think and would turn this into Iron Man 4 featuring Spider-Man and he as always gives a great performance, and even another Avenger makes a few cameo appearances throughout the movie. The biggest standout performance in the movie was easily Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man giving out whom I think is the best interpretation of the character in film. While I think the previous actors who played the web-slinger did do a good job in their respective movies, neither played both Peter Parker as Peter Parker and Peter Parker as Spider-Man perfectly. With Tobey Maguire, he was a great Peter, but an okay Spider-Man, while Andrew Garfield as a great Spider-Man, but an okay Peter. But Tom Holland plays both Peter and Spidey perfectly. As I’ve stated with my Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 review, since this is another Marvel movie PLEASE BE PATIENT DURING THE CREDITS and you won’t be disappointed with the post-credits scene this movie has!

If you are any fan of Marvel or Spider-Man, or you want a fun superhero movie, this is a must watch! I’m going to give Spider-Man: Homecoming a 10/10 with the Edward’s Seal of Approval.
