If you have ever wanted to see Mark Wahlburg get beaten up Spenser Confidential is just the movie for you. Spenser Confidential is an action-filled and hilarious movie that will leave surprised and fulfilled. Spenser’s (Mark Wahlburg) nose for justice is constantly twitching and this is shown in several parts of the movie. Spenser sets off to find the murderer of a kind hearted young police officer. However, he finds much more. He finds a whole system of corruption and connections to other murder cases.
Spenser Confidential, a comedy/action movie directed by Pete Berg, is a book-to-movie adaptation of “Wonderland” by Ace Atkins. Made in 2020 as a Netflix Original, the movie has a rating of 6.2/10 IMDb rating and a 38% rating from Rotten Tomatoes. The main actors consist of Mark Wahlburg, Spenser, Winston Duke, Hawk, Iliza Shlesinger, Cissy, and Alan Arkin, Henry. Throughout this movie Spenser is trying to solve a case that included himself as a suspect. However, throughout the movie he gets turned back by those who should be supporting him, and he finds this suspicious.
The movie starts out by how Spenser goes to prison due to him beating up someone higher in command than him. Spenser does this because he sees how the higher officer was abusing his wife. After he gets out of prison, Spenser desperately wants to get out of Boston but is forced to train an up and coming amateur fighter, Hawk, for an old friend, Henry. From there he gets swooped into a case and with the help of Hawk and his ex-girlfriend, Cissy Davis, stops a former colleague cop who is doing some dirty work from becoming rich and getting away with it.
One character in the movie that was incredibly intriguing was Hawk, played by Winston Duke. This character came out to be, in my opinion, one of the best characters to play in the movie. Throughout the movie it seemed like Winston Duke played as Hawk really well. Hawk probably had the most amiable character traits in the movie for someone to play: chill yet powerful. The biggest part in the movie was when Hawk and Spenser were able to bond after a rough start in their relationship. Through their close relationship, they were able to take down the “villains”.
Spenser Confidential is a movie that I would recommend to people older than about ten years old because there is some inappropriate language. However, if someone asked me what movie would you most recommend, this movie would definitely not be in my top ten. This is because it didn’t give any feelings that I hadn’t felt in other movies, and the movie was pretty cliche other than a couple scenes. Other than those negatives, Spenser Confidential was a hilarious movie with some surprising scenes. The props and sets were really well throughout the movie with a few explosions. The editing was done really with no awkward scenes where it is obvious that it is fake. The main problem was that the actors, mainly Mark Wahlburg, didn’t seem too into it throughout the movie. However, other than some negatives Spencer Confidential is a good movie that should be watched.
