Greece Still In Turmoil

atBy: Ani Nrusimha

Greece had an election – again.

Political power has been shifting fast and discontent has grown in Greece, which  has been suffering from political and economic turmoil since the recession.  Greece’s issue of sky-high debt — caused by a lack of tax collection and rampant spending — has put them into a series of situations where they can’t pay their debts unless the rest of the European Union bails them out.  Because of the way the European Union works, Germany and France cannot just leave Greece’s economy to the wolves, as this would cause a ripple effect across the Union.  In their eyes this seems like something holding them back, a weight put in place by Greece’s lax monetary policies which were not politically or economically sound.  So, in return for bailing out Greece, Germany in particular has demanded tough economic reforms and the competing influences of the two groups have led to many adverse situations.

Fast forward to this January, when the economic strife and the pain being felt by the citizens of Greece led them to elect a radical left wing party to head the country’s government.  This party, known as the Syriza party, campaigned on an anti-austerity platform. Its leader, Alex Tsipras, quickly formed a coalition (a few parties that band together to form a new majority party).  He quickly set out on his goals to fix the “humanitarian crisis” he saw in Greece, attempting to negotiate with the Germans and others to soften the austerity measures.  One of his most notable actions was calling a popular election to approve an austerity measure, a decision that received mixed reactions.  The resounding negative response he got from this was not surprising, yet it dissuaded the people with whom he was negotiating. Interestingly enough, Fidel Castro, the ruler of Cuba, congratulated Tsipras for this action.

However, for members of his own party, agreeing with the Germans at all was too much to give up.  They contended that any austerity was too much austerity, and fought with the President.  To them, he had become what he should have hated most: a bureaucrat who signed an austerity deal.  In August, he made another attention-seeking move by resigning from his position.

This set the stage for the election, which was on September 21st.  The Greeks overwhelmingly elected Tsipras and the Syriza party, consolidating his power and giving him more strength going forward.  He was given what political scientists called a mandate, which came to 63% of vote.  However, not all was for the best for Tsipras.  The victory came arguably on the back of the lowest voter turnout in Greek history, and the next bailout deal is yet to come.

UCC Shooting Kills Nine

The October 2, 2015 Umqua Community College shooting left nine people killed and seven injured, with yet another set of families forced to cope with the repercussions of gun violence in America.

The 26 year-old gunman began firing at UCC and was killed in a police shootout.

The gunman is purported to have asked his victims to state their religion before firing.

Just hours after the attack, President Obama issued a speech that has become all too common in a nation where gun violence rages on.  “We are the only advanced country on Earth that sees these mass shootings every few months,” the president said. “We are not the only country on Earth that has people with mental illnesses or want to do harm to other people.”

He demanded stricter gun laws, emphasizing the idea that the only way to truly end this as an issue is to politicize gun control.

President Obama also challenged news sources to run some numbers.  He asked news sources to put the deaths from gun violence side by side with deaths from terrorist attacks, another greatly feared aspect of any American’s life.

News sources took the challenge.  Over 10,000 Americans are killed each year by gun violence, including suicides while a much smaller number of Americans have been killed from terrorist attacks since 9/11. If legislation could practically eliminate the terrorist attack-related deaths in this country over the past 14 years, the number of gun-related deaths- suicides in particular- could be easily preventable if even minor steps are taken towards gun control.  Countries like the UK and Australia have shown that effective legislation is possible and can have very positive effects in decreasing gun-related violence.

In a country where mass shootings happen all too often, reactions to these tragedies are becoming almost routine.  For UCC families, they are yet another addition to the endless number of lives of those affected by gun-related violence each year.

Class Rank

0

Rob-Wired-900x457By: Harleen Kaur

The controversy over class rank here at Williamsville East has taken over the front page of our newspaper too many times. And in reality we have made a lot of progress. The issue has been brought to the board’s attention and has been discussed multiple times at school board meetings. But as the school begins to watch the seniors stress once again, the newspaper (as always) is here to cover it.

East has had a long history of class rank. It had started as a list to be posted with students names written in order of their rank. But as the school realized this may come to be uncomfortable for many students, they began listing the students’ numbers instead of their names. But the same issue began to arise again as students began to find out others’ numbers the school began sending home letters stating students’ rank. This year, in an effort to go green (or help students’ hide their rank from their parents, we’ll never know) the school has begun to post rank on WITS. Yet, it seems that no matter how hard the school may try, class rank has consistently been an uncomfortable topic for the students here at East.

As we have continuously stated in previous issues, it is unfair to judge the students here at East by class rank because we have such high level students at the difference between 1 and 2 may be by less than a .01 point on the average. And when colleges see such results they may see your #11, oh that wretched number, as insufficient when really that student reaches a level similar, if not better, than many valedictorians at other schools. And to put a number on a student here at East is not only an insufficient measurement of their intellect, but it can also be a serious stress factor.

We have all heard the stories from Mr. Nogowski of how the student who receives #11 always ends up upset because he/she didn’t make it into the top ten, but in reality that student should be ecstatic. It is not only the fact that he/she probably could have ranked in the top five at another school, but it is the fact that that student feels like that number defines them. And I’m sure a lot of students feel that way, and while they may be upset that they didn’t receive a high enough rank there is also the feeling that they couldn’t do better than the other students in their grade. And while competition can be a good in certain situations it reaches a certain level when it just brings a huge pile of stress upon students’ shoulders that not only affects them mentally but emotionally.

So, while this is only the first class rank article this year, and there will probably definitely be more, take the chance to think about the impact that class rank has had on our seniors. We have made a lot of progress of the past few years, but class rank is still thriving, and this year’s seniors will be happy to rant about it to all you underclassmen. But as a junior, there is no way I want to go through that stress next year, and I would encourage the board to take this into consideration the next time they begin to discuss the issue.

Carl Wilkens Comes To East

By: Harman Kaurcw

The 1994 genocide that took place in Rwanda was a genocide that every country and every soldier turned their back on. Every nation and the United Nations pulled out their citizens and their soldiers instead of sending more to prevent the death of anywhere between 500,000 to 1,000,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus. There were no Americans left in Rwanda after Clinton’s decision to keep the United States out of the situation. Every man and women fled–except for one.

Carl Wilkins watched his wife and children leave his protection as he stood in the middle of the scene of a massacre, only staying for the protection of the two Tutsis that worked for his family. Wilkins was the only American to stay in Rwanda after the Hutus started slaughtering Tutsis for being Tutsis, and moderate Hutus for not assisting in the killings. In his choice to stay, he didn’t know whether he would survive to see his family again but he definitely saved the lives of orphans, the two Tutsis that worked for him, and many others.

Williamsville East has the immense pleasure and honor of having Carl Wilkins come speak on October 26, 2015 at 7 o’clock. This is all due to the efforts of East junior Madison Irene and Dr. Redmond.

Madison came up with the idea to start a Speaker’s series at East after her participation in the Summer Institute of Human Rights and Genocide Studies this summer. The Institute is a program for teens in the Buffalo region to learn about genocides and human rights violations like the Holocaust and the Rwandan Genocide. The most exciting portion of the program is the guest speaker that is invited to come speak to the teens. Madison, with the assistance of Dr. Redmond who assists in running the Institute, was able to set up a day in which Wilkins would be close to Buffalo to come speak to the Williamsville community

Dr. Redmond, having previously listened to Wilkins speak, is particularly excited about him coming to East. “I want students to feel inspired and feel empowered. He’s an absolute human rights hero and icon.” When listening to him speak Wilkins exudes energy and optimism and really forces people to look past the differences in others to help them. Dr. Redmond is hoping that will motivate  students, their parents, and faculty to feel that they can do great things and they can help people without having to go and stay in the middle of a genocide, they can assist from right at home.

“As a teacher, I’m most excited for my students to having this opportunity to be exposed to ideas and people,” said Dr. Redmond. He’s hoping that this event will really broaden students’ horizons and will really bring all the things they have been learning about to life. This event is a chance for students to see how the things they learn about in the classroom is real and it affects people all around the world. Sometimes hearing about this between 4 walls (or in East’s case, 3 walls) can seem fictional or something that is so distant that it in no way can affect anyone we might come in contact with.

Leading up to the event there are two mini events happening: a book club discussion and a screening of Hotel Rwanda. In collaboration with East’s Book Club, many students in the school are reading Carl Wilkin’s book, I’m Not Leaving to learn about his life during the genocide and a little bit of the before and after. It is a way of gaining a bit of knowledge and insight for the author himself comes to speak at East. The meeting will be held on October 19th after school in the library. The school will also be showing a screening of Hotel Rwanda, a movie about Paul Rusesabagina, a Hutu hotel manager who protected Tutsi refugees in his hotel. The date of the showing has yet to be confirmed.

Dr. Redmond and Madison really hope that all East students who can make the event will attend and bring any family or friends that are available. Students are welcome to being any community member even if they do not attend East. If all goes well, East is hoping to bring in at least one more guest speaker in the Spring.

US Open

The 2015 US Open saw some big upsets, in addition to some expected results. In men’s tennis, there were the usual favorites – Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal – in addition to other top players, like Murray, Wawrinka, Tsonga, and Cilic. Unsurprisingly, Federer and Djokovic were consistent in their wins, although Djokovic’s match with Bautista-Agut was a tough one that ended after four grueling sets. Nadal, surprisingly, lost to Fognini in a crushing five set match. After a series of early losses, in addition to an increasing number of injuries, Nadal’s career may be approaching its end. Murray also lost out early on, in the fourth round, to Kevin Anderson in a four set match, many of which came to tie-breaks.

The semifinals ended up consisting of Djokovic, Cilic, Wawrinka, and Federer. Both Djokovic and Federer crushed their opponents in straight sets, and moved on to the finals where they would face each other. After a four-hour rain delay, the finals began. Djokovic took the first set against Roger Federer 6–4, ending Federer’s winning streak of 28 straight sets since losing to Djokovic in the Wimbledon final in July. But Federer came back in the second set to take it 7–5. In the third set, Federer had several break point opportunities but Djokovic steadied and served out the set at 6–4 to take a 2–1 lead in the match. Djokovic pulled away in the fourth set and served for the match at 5–2 in the final set, but Federer rallied to make it 5–4. In the end, Djokovic closed out the match 6–4 in the final set.

Women’s singles had one of the biggest upsets, with Serena Williams losing to Roberta Vinci in the semifinals. The favorites were present – the Williams sisters, Azarenka, Kvitova, and Wozniacki – in addition to other top players like Halep, Stephens, and Radwanska. Both of the Williams sisters played decisively, and had no issue making it to the quarterfinals. Vinci made it to the quarterfinals, due to Bouchard pulling out from the Open. Kvitova, Pennetta, Azarenka, and Halep also continued on to the quarterfinals, although Halep had a tough three set match against Lisicki.

Serena and Venus faced off in an intense match, both physically and emotionally, with Serena coming out victorious. The semifinals consisted of Pennetta vs Halep and Williams vs Vinci. Serena was a favorite for her match, unsurprisingly, while Halep and Pennetta were relatively equal opponents. Williams began the match with a easy 6-2 first set, but the match was quickly turned around, with Vinci coming out on top with two 6-4 sets. Pennetta crushed Halep in straight sets. The finals was a match between two Italians, Pennetta and Vinci. After starting with a ton of unforced errors, Pennetta broke Vinci in the fifth game of the opening set on her seventh break point of that game. But Vinci broke back in the eighth game to tie the set at 4–4. The players ultimately went to a first set tiebreak, and Pennetta earned a mini-break to lead 3–2 when Vinci hit a forehand long. Serving to win the set at 5-4, Pennetta held both her serves and won the opening set when Vinci hit her shot long. The second set was all Pennetta, who broke Vinci three times and hit a cross-court winner to end the match. The US Open was Pennetta’s last professional tournament of her career, as she has now retired.

English Premier League

OtDMt8QeBy: Omkar Pratapwar

So far this year, things in the Barclays Premier League have not been as predictable as fans would have imagined a couple months ago. Some huge deals were made this summer, and the EPL broke the previous summer transfer window record for most money spent. At the end of last season, it looked as if Arsenal and Chelsea were heading up, Man City and Man U were heading down, and Everton, West Brom, and Tottenham would be losing their young stars. But it seems that this summer, spending truly did improve some teams, while making others look like fools.

Some of this season’s biggest successes so far have been Man U, Man City, Leicester City, Everton and West Ham. Manchester United have looked sharp this season, with the additions of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Anthony Martial, Memphis Depay, and Sergio Romero. These additions helped counter the heavy losses suffered this summer with Robin van Persie and Nani leaving for Fenerbahce, and Wayne Rooney’s scoring rut. Manchester City did quite nicely this summer, but it came at a cost. Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi, and Kevin de Bruyne costed City over 100 million, but this is money that City can easily afford to spend, and the spending has really paid off this season, with Man City the title favorites. Everton and West Ham are in the same boat, with both teams knocking out some top teams like Man City, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Both teams also made some great additions to their teams, with Everton adding Gerard Deulofeu, Ramiro Funes Mori, Tom Cleverly, and Leandro Rodriguez, and West Ham bringing in Angelo Ogbonna and Dimitri Payet, with Victor Moses and Alex Song coming in on loan. These players are really giving Everton and West Ham a good boost this season. Leicester City made some unheralded moves this offseason with Shinji Okazaki, Christian Fuchs, Gokhan Inler, and Robert Huths. Leicester looked excellent towards the end of last season, and picked up right where they left off by staying undefeated so far this season.

The disappointments for this season are the most unlikely of candidates, as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Stoke City struggle, right out of the gate. Arsenal looked like title candidates after the acquisition of Petr Cech this season, but failed to pick up any other outfield players. They relied too heavily on Cech early in the season, and got beat by West Ham for it. Chelsea have started the season not looking like last season’s champions, but rather of a recently promoted team. Pedro looked like a good buy at first, but now looks a bit unnecessary with the plethora of wingers for Chelsea. Chelsea also made a fool of themselves with the John Stones saga, eventually ending up with Papy Djilobodji. Did you know, Stoke City have more Champions League winners than any other Premier League team? Too bad that Xherdan Shaqiri, Bojan, and the rest can’t even reach the Champions League. Stoke now sit in 18th place, and from the looks of it, are probably not going to reach the Europa League, let alone the middle of the EPL table.

Some other smart moves include Yohan Cabaye to Crystal Palace, Jordan Veretout to Aston Villa, Virgil van Dijk to Southampton, and Son Heung-Min to Tottenham. Premier League teams really improved their rosters this year, and some helped themselves by refusing to let go of young stars, such as Everton’s death grip on John Stones, West Brom’s battle to keep Saido Berahino, and Southampton drawing the line on their departures by holding Victor Wanyama.

The Premier League’s blockbuster spending spree summer has impacted the League positively, and the teams are looking a lot stronger. I expect to see some major purchases this winter when the window opens again, and maybe even an underdog team making the top four.

Buffalo Bills

0

Picture12By: Jason Phillips

The Buffalo Bills season has had an interesting start. In the first two weeks, they squared off against the two teams that played for a conference championship last year, so to come away with a record of 1-1 isn’t the worst thing in the world. In the Colts game the Bills showed the dominant defense with the average offensive play that most people were expecting coming into the season. In the Patriots game the defense struggled a lot. Tom Brady (who should have been suspended) picked apart the Bills defense with three step drops and quick passes. It also didn’t help that the Bills had to lose yards penalties on every other play of the game. The Patriots game is proof that this team we have right now cannot be a major contender for a super bowl. Their defense takes way too many penalties and is easy to pick apart with quick routes and passes like the Patriots did. The secondary is not good enough in coverage to be able to stop an offense when the team blitzes as much as Rex Ryan likes to. It doesn’t help that starting safety Aaron Williams just got carted off the field with a neck injury and will most likely miss at least one game. It also doesn’t help that our number two corner seems to be as fit to play as Rex Ryan himself. The rookie starter and second round pick Ronald Darby got picked on against the Colts and demolished against the Patriots. If you go back and watch the interception he caught in week one he was beat badly. Andrew Luck just under threw his receiver on the play. This secondary is nowhere near as good as the one Rex had in New York when they made the AFC championship game in back to back years. The defensive line might be better, but when you’re going to send more guys than the offense can block pressure isn’t the issue.

The offense had been somewhat impressive throughout the first two weeks of the year. Tyrod Taylor has done better than expected as starter and has pretty much claimed that spot as his for the rest of year unless he gets injured. Lesean McCoy has been good not great, but the offensive line has really struggled to create the holes he needs in order to get to the second level. The plays where he has gotten past the line of scrimmage in some space his ability to break tackles and his speed has certainly been on display. Percy Harvin has been a key edition for the team and Watkins has some work to be done. The biggest issue is the offensive line play. Glenn and Henderson have been awful through the first two games. The constantly have been getting beat by defensive ends and each have had several holding calls against the, John Miller the rookie guard has been lackluster too. He has trouble creating holes to run the ball and he struggles to pick up the blitz. When 60% of your offensive line are struggling to do their jobs the whole line struggles. Hopefully Miller progresses and gets better at reading blitzes other than that I expect shaky o-line play throughout the year.

NFL Week 2 Recap

0

Picture12By: Will Zheng

So much has happened in the NFL is just 2 weeks. Even though the season has only just begun, major storylines have emerged. Probably the biggest story so far is the holdout of Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor. Chancellor, one of the NFL’s most intimidating safeties in the league, refused to play in the Seahawks first 2 games due to a contract dispute with the team. This left a major hole the league’s best defence. Chancellor will return week 3 in hopes of salvaging their season

The Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts have also started a disappointing 0-2. The Saints and Colts both have playoff caliber offenses but their lackluster defenses are preventing them from winning ball games. Eagles, despite starting 0-2 still have a realistic shot of winning the NFC East. We have only seen glimpses of the dominate Chip Kelly’s offence this season. If the Eagles offence starts to click, they have a shot in beating out the

Cowboys, who have QB Tony Romo and WR Dez Bryant out with injuries for extended time.

The New England Patriots, reigning superbowl champions who been called cheaters all offseason after the deflategate incident once again asserted their dominance over the with decisive wins over the steelers and AFC rival, Buffalo Bills. The Patriots lucked out this season with, QB Tom Brady winning an appeal that nullified a 4 game suspension. Without Brady, it’s unlikely the Patriots would be having so much success early on.

Along with the Pats, the Cardinals, Cowboys, Packers, Falcons, Panthers, Broncos, Bengals and Jets, are the only 9 undefeated teams left. The most surprising name on the list is definitely the New York Jets who finished 4-12 last season. The Jets got CB Darrelle Revis and WR Brandon Marshall in free agency, both of whom have greatly improved the team. They have a solid offense backed by an even better defense who have already forced 10 turnovers in their first 2 games.

The Cardinals and Packers have played like title contenders thus far. The Cardinals, lead by QB Carson Palmer, have one of the most efficient offenses in the league. Since last season, Carson Palmer has only lost one game. As long as Palmer doesn’t get injured again, the Cardinals should be favorites to win the NFC West.

Reigning MVP, Aaron Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers are back at it again doing what they do best: winning. After a big win versus the seahawks last week, it appears that the Packers offence will be just fine without Pro-Bowl WR Jordy Nelson who is out for the season with a torn ACL.

The Broncos despite starting 2-0 look shaky. For the last 3 seasons we have grown accustomed of seeing QB, Peyton Manning pick apart defenses. This season however, it looks like age has finally caught up to him. At age 39, Manning threw 2 pick-6’s before throwing his first TD this season, a troubling sign for the Broncos.

Pro-Bowl wide receivers Julio Jones and Antonio Brown, two of the best wide receivers in the game, are pulling their weight for their respective teams. The Falcons appear to have bounced back from their 6-10 record last season. They’re much improved on defense and their offense as potent as every, making them favorites in the AFC South. The Steelers Antonio Brown has over 300 yards in just 2 games. The team welcomes back they’re Pro-Bowl running back Le’veon Bell who finished serving his 2 game suspension and should be starting come week 3. The Steelers scary offence make them the favorites in the AFC North.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s and the Tennessee Titan’s hope for better things from their rookie QBs Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, who were picked 1st and 2nd overall in the 2015 draft. Both quarterbacks have both shown great potential but have also struggled against NFL defenses and schemes.

Another “rookie” QB, Tyrod Taylor of the Buffalo Bills, has made a splash in the NFL. Tyrod Taylor, who has been back QB for the Raven since 2011, won the starting job for the Bills due to his explosive play style. His ability to make explosive runs out of the pocket, and deliver the ball to other Bills playmakers, makes him a great fit for the team. The concern with Tyrod, is the lack of pocket awareness, a skill he needs to develop in order for 1-1 Bills, under coach Rex Ryan, to end their 15 year playoff drought.

With 15 more weeks to go, anything can happen, this is just the first chapter. A bad team can start to make things work and potentially make the playoff or elite team can lose a star player that could end their hopes of winning a Superbowl.

iOS9 is Most Successful Apple Update Ever

ios-9-logo1By: Sherrie Chen

What are the top 5 things we hold in our hands these day? Phones, phones, phones…of course! Living in the phone-heavily-related world, people can get pretty excited about operating system updates.

Last Wednesday, September 16th, Apple released the latest version of its mobile operating system-the new iOS 9.

iOS 9 was first announced in June and holds a number of new multitasking tools, predictive features and some welcome performance improvements. Now it is formally put into use.

There are several attractive features on iOS 9 including a greater, smarter Siri, a power-saving mode as well as improving Facetime, Notes app and Maps. Moreover, the update process is easier. With 1.3GB – less than one third of 4.6 GB in iOS 8. The system is made more humanized. More and more people have complained about lack of space in phone. Guess what? The new system offers user a choice to delete and reinstall apps automatically through a pop-up notification.

First of all,Apple has added a back button to the top left hand corner of apps. Let’s say you open a link in  Facebook, then go to calendar, now you can follow the breadcrumbs back to the first app you opened.

Also, iOS 9 makes iPad a better work tool. Slide Over lets you preview another app on the side of your screen. If you are reading a movie review in the new News app, now you can look up movie times at the same time. it can even put two apps side-by-side, allowing copy and paste in between.

iOS 9 will come by default in the next generation of iPhones—6S and 6S Plus. With pre-sales began for about 11 days, the new phones go on sale on Friday. It is clear that Apple had high expectations about the new devices and hope they will set the records.

Streamy Awards Welcomes Viners

Picture10By: Stella Brady

The Streamy Awards are an award show that you probably haven’t heard of unless you’re an avid Youtube video watcher like me. This unique award show honors Youtube video creators . The awards focus on Youtube and a few other media platforms like Vine (does anyone use Vine anymore?) and Snapchat (We have our own WEHS geotag!!). This year was the 5th annual Streamy Awards. This year was special because it was the first national television broadcast of the show, which premiered on VH1 on September 17th. I tuned in to watch the show, and I recommend you giving them a watch, it was very entertaining (and a little bit confusing. Who are some of these nominees?). The entire show is available on demand through VH1’s Youtube channel.

44 awards were given away, including the “Entertainer of the Year” and the “Show of the Year,” which were entirely determined by online votes (Put the power in the fangirls hands right?). The nominees for “Entertainer of the Year” were Cameron Dallas, Connor Franta, Grace Helbig, Jack & Jack, Jenna Marbles, Kandee Johnson, King Bach, Miranda Sings, IISuperwomanII, and Tyler Oakley. Personally, I would’ve picked Connor Franta because he is one of my favorite Youtubers. But, (spoiler alert) Cameron Dallas won the award. The nominees for “Show of the Year” were EncufeTV, fouseyTUBE, Good Mythical Morning, The Philip DeFranco Show, PrankvsPrank, Rooster Teeth, Smosh, SourceFed, Teens React, and Video Game High School. The winner of this award was (another spoiler alert) fouseyTUBE.

There were 8 award categories, which were “Audience Choice,” “Awards for Channels, Series, or Shows,” “Subject Awards,” “Performance Awards,” “Music Awards,” “Craft Awards,” “Social Video Awards,” and “Campaign Awards.”

This year’s Streamy’s were hosted by Grace Helbig and Tyler Oakley, who are two of my favorite YouTubers. They are absolutely hilarious, and they both have their own book and podcast (I’ve never actually listened to a podcast before). I recommend you give some of their videos a watch, maybe even a subscribe. The awards opened with a musical performance by Hailee Steinfeld, and closed with a musical performance by Sir Mix-A-Lot (name goals). Throughout the show, there were other performances by Futuristic, Future, OMI, and A Great Big World. There were many presenters for the awards, including Paula Abdul, Natasha Bedingfield, Nene Leakes, Ciara, and many more.

As many recent news stories have pointed out, Youtube is responsible for the launch of many successful celebrities careers, such as Bethany Mota, who was on the past season of Dancing With the Stars. Or more famously known, Colleen Ballinger, who plays the character Miranda Sings, whom of which we all know and love (I impersonate Miranda at least 20 times a day). Youtube is slowly taking over the world one view at a time.

All in all, the Streamy Awards are a well-rounded awards show. I personally enjoyed the show because of my interest in Youtube and other social medias. If you like Youtube or have never spent the time (hours) to watch some videos, I strongly suggest you do. I watch YouTube more than I talk to my own friends so, watch at your own risk. All of these video creators spend a lot of time making their content. For most of them, it’s their job. So, if you want a good time, go to www.youtube.com and click away.
