17 year old actress, Olivia Rodrigo, makes Spotify history and goes viral on Tik Tok with her new song “Driver’s Licence”- going No. 1 on Spotify in just 1 week! The song has many theories behind it, however the main topic of it is the love she has for a boy who loves someone else. The tell tale lyrics say: “And you’re probably with that blonde girl / Who always made me doubt / She’s so much older than me / She’s everything I’m insecure about.”
The pop song had over 15.17 million global streams on January 11- setting the Spotify record for the most streams in a day for a non-holiday song- then broke its own record with over 17.01 million streams on January 12! The song is also one of the top trending sounds on Tik Tok and people like Taylor Swift congratulated Olivia for her success with it.
Olivia wrote the song in July 2020 and she said it was quite an emotional process. Talking to Apple Music, she said “I was driving around my neighbourhood, actually listening to really sad songs and crying in the car, and I got home, and I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll write a song about this, crying in the car. So I just sat down at my piano and plucked out some chords that I liked.” She posted her playing part of the song on the piano on her instagram and her followers came back with a lot of positive feedback, so Olivia went to her manager and a few months later, the song was released!
