The scene of the crime. Oulson had gone to the theater to watch a matinee of Lone Survivor.

Seventy one year old Curtis Reeves was charged with second-degree murder of Chad Oulson, who was texting his 3-year-old daughter’s day-care center, during the previews before the movie “Lone Survivor”.

This former Tampa police captain faces life in prison for shooting Oulson with a .380-caliber semiautomatic weapon. He had asked Oulson to put away his phone, but when Oulson had continued to text he went to call the manager. But, after he had come back to his seat the two men continued to argue. Eventually, in anger, Oulson had thrown a bag of popcorn at Reeves. His response was to pull out a gun and fire.

Many people question why Curtis Reeves had even brought a gun with him to the movie theatre, and why he had acted so rashly and over such trivial issues such as texting and throwing popcorn. Although, the people who had known Reeves had claimed that he was a good man and was a honest police officer. “He must have just snapped,” said a neighbor of Reeves. This, of course, is no excuse for shooting and injuring two people, for Oulson’s wife had tried to protect him but it had hit her hand and then his chest. Once the police had arrived at the scene blood was coming out of Oulson’s mouth, and when the police came to arrest Reeves he had remained calm and seated in his seat.

In the end of his trial which was earlier this month Reeves was found guilty of the crime to which Nicole, Oulson’s widow, said she was “happy and relieved.”
