College is an important step in one’s future. Whether you decide to go for the four-year bachelor degree or not, college majors are an extremely important decision to make. There are many things to consider regarding one’s major, such as cost, pay-off, and job-security. One’s major is the path leading to future careers and further education. Here are some of the most popular majors in 2022: Biology, Business and Management, Nursing, Engineering, Psychology, Computer Science, and Education.
However, college majors sometimes don’t work out, and it could be for a multitude of reasons. Maybe the field did not hold any more interest or the pay-off wasn’t enough. Maybe the major wasn’t specialized enough, or maybe it was too general. Here are some of the most regretted college majors: Journalism, Sociology, Liberal Arts/General Studies, Communications, Education, Biology, and Political Science and Government. Many of these majors tend to have lower prospects and pay-offs in comparison to other majors. Generally, the higher the education level, the higher the prospects, and the higher the pay. This is not to say that salary should be the only thing to consider when deciding a major; however, it should at least be a point of consideration. After all, many students said they regretted their major only after they graduated and realized how low the prospects and pay that came with careers in their majors were.
Of course, doing something that you like is also a large component of choosing a major. However, this must also be taken with a grain of salt, as one’s prospects with said major are also an important item to consider. Choose your major wisely to ensure that you have good prospects, as well as a field you have interest in. Liking your career and being able to live with that career are essential aspects of life, and these aspects start with your college major.
