Williamsville East’s math club hosted their annual Pi Day meeting in March to honor the well known mathematical symbol. Mrs. Yermas, the club’s advisor, had various exciting activities planned to celebrate the holiday.
There was, no doubt, pie at this meeting. Yermas claimed that she served a wide variety of pies. Apple, cherry, blueberry, chocolate and even banana cream are all flavors enjoyed and on the menu! It was just another excellent reason for one to start attending this rewarding club.
Mrs. Yermas also lead an SAT review class on March 13th and the pi day celebrations followed. On the real pi day, March 14th, East held the SAT test in the gym, so the meeting on the 13th could be very valuable for those students taking the exam that day, the last day before school closed due to the Coronavirus.
At their regular monthly gatherings, Mrs. Yermas hosts SAT and ACT review sessions, lots of miscellaneous math-related things and even some activities that are not so math-related! Mrs. Yermas made sure to emphasize that “It’s just fun! Not that much math, really.”
Various club members such as Gemma Sofia Petrulla rave about the club and encourage others to join. “It’s a really good time,” Petrulla claims, “Who would have thought math could be so fun and exciting!” Math club is open to all who are interested and it is never too late to join. Math club has officers that include Senior Josh Weissert, and Juniors David Cheon and Lucas Romanowski. Feel free to ask one of these friendly faces around school any questions you may have about the club.
Although the club typically only gets together once a month, Mrs. Yermas has increased the amount of meetings in the coming weeks to try to help out those taking standardized tests essential for college admission. SAT review classes were hosted March 11th and March 13th. ACT review classes were scheduled to take place on the 25th of March, April 2nd and April 31st but were cancelled. Don’t miss out on these opportunities to increase your score next year. Tutors can cost thousands and Mrs. Yermas is offering these incredibly helpful services free of charge. And you can’t skip out on delicious pie!
