These days, we are living in a modern golden age of superhero movies where we are seeing our favorite characters take the leap from the pages to the big screen thanks to talented directors, writers, and actors. As an X-Men fan, I was really intrigued to see what writer/director James Mangold was going to do with Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart’s final outing as Wolverine and Professor X in Marvel’s new R-rated action drama Logan.
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X somewhere on the Mexican border. However, Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are upended when a young mutant named Laura arrives, pursued by dark forces.
Logan is a fantastic swan song for the film’s beloved title character with a well-written story with the right balance of drama and action. The characters are just as engaging as the story where you really want to see them succeed. The actors deliver great performances especially Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart giving it their all as Wolverine and Professor X for the last time. Also, newcomer child actress Dafne Keen gives a fantastic job as Laura. The action scenes are also really intense and leave you at the edge of your seat. Oh, and also, without spoiling anything, the violence can be extremely brutal with tons of blood spurts and a high death count. If you have a younger sibling who is an X-Men fan, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THIS MOVIE! It is rated R for a very good reason for the already mentioned brutal violence and a good amount of swearing. Also, there is a special surprise that plays before the movie starts that I know quite a bit of you readers are going to enjoy.
People are right when they say that this movie can be considered one of the best comic book movies of all time next to The Dark Knight or The Avengers. To wrap things up, if you are an X-Men fan, go see this movie as soon as you can, but if you are younger, then wait till you are older. Logan gets a 9/10 with the Edward’s Seal of Approval.
