Homecoming Week 2017
By Priya Pindiprolu

Homecoming is the most spirited week of the year, October 2nd to October 6th lead up to the Football Game on Saturday, October 7th. The week starts off with the Kick-off Homecoming Assembly. The gym is divided by grade level and is overwhelmed by the amount of spirit in each section. The freshman section is decorated in blue, sophomore section is green, junior section is yellow and the senior section is decorated in red and gold. At the kick-off assembly, the nominees for Homecoming King and Queen are announced. Then, representatives from each class, will participate in games, such as Catch the Chicken.

The week continues, with -ER Day, on Tuesday October 3rd. Dress up in anything, ending in -ER. And I mean anything, including your basic Teenager, Football Player and even something as crazy as a shower. After school, will be the Care Walk, on the Track, from 3:00-4:00 PM. On Wednesday, dress up in your most patriotic attire, for America Day. After school, from 3:00-4:30, there will be Inflatable Fun Day. Then, there will be a Drama Club Showcase, from 5:30-6:30. The showcase will feature many solo and group acts, of students from Drama Club. This year, our Homecoming theme is “Dancing Through the Decades”. Every grade level will dress up according to their theme. The Freshman theme is the 50s. The Sophomore theme is the 60s. The Junior theme is 70s. The Senior theme is the 80s. Have fun dressing up this week and get as crazy as possible.

The annual Powderpuff Game will begin at 5:00 PM, and will take place on the Football Field. The Powderpuff game is an opportunity for the junior and senior girls to go head to head, and compete in a friendly game of football. They will play with the support of the junior and senior guys, cheering for them on the sidelines. Following Powderpuff, will be the Taste of East. The Taste of East gives students the opportunity to support different clubs, who will be selling food. Also, different food trucks always make an appearance. Last year, Lloyd’s Taco Truck and a Sno-Cone Truck came. Towards, the end of Taste of East, there will be an immense bonfire, to bring an end to a very eventful night.

On Friday, October 6th, it is Senior Dress Up Day, and for the rest of the school, it is Flames spirit day. Then at 1:30, the Homecoming King and Queen Assembly begins. Each Nominee, will have a teacher, of their choosing, read their speech, and be escorted by their parents or close friends. Then at the end of the assembly, our Homecoming Court will be announced.

Saturday, October 7th, is the most eventful day, of the week. The day kicks off with the Parade, at 12:30. This will give each class a chance, to show their class pride and show off their spectacular floats. Then at 2:00, the Football Game will take place, at East’s Football field. East will be facing Kenmore West. Go Flames! Then finally, after a long, eventful week, the Homecoming Dance will take place, from 7:00-10:00, at East. The Homecoming Dance is a great place to spend time with friends, and eat lots of deserts. Have fun this week, expressing your unmeasurable spirit.
