September 27th through October 2nd, homecoming returns to Williamsville East at long last! After the celebration’s cancellation last year, the Student Council, class offices, and administration have organized a week full of fun activities and school spirit to kick off the year.Â
Monday, September 27th, grades 9-11 will wear red and gold to show off East pride while the seniors dress up. Nominees for the homecoming court will be announced. Don’t forget to cast in your vote!
Fan-favorite ER-day will be on Tuesday. The rule is simple: dress up as anything that ends with -er. You could be a soccer player, singer, or a pepper if you so desired. The Care Walk will be after school from 3-4 at the track. Donate $5 to join and help raise money for cancer awareness. Volunteer hours are available for this!
On Wednesday, it will be time to represent your class and dress up in your decade outfit! Faculty, seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen have the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and 2000s respectively. So, don’t be too shocked when you see bell bottoms, leather jackets, and velour tracksuits gracing the halls of East. Do a quick search on Google if you aren’t sure how to match the fashion of your decade.
Show some community pride on Thursday with Buffalo spirit day! Wear any local team, One Buffalo, or 716 gear. (I heard that anyone who shows up wearing New England Patriots, Toronto Maple Leafs, or Miami Dolphins merchandise is allowed to earn a three-day suspension, but I suppose that’s just a rumor.) At 5:00, junior and senior girls will compete in the Powderpuff game! Anyone interested in participating must fill out the permission slip. Questions should be directed to class advisors — Mrs. Zgoda for juniors and Mrs. Wagar or Mr. Hurley for seniors. Be sure to stay after for Taste of East(6-8 PM) and, of course, the bonfire! Taste of East will feature our school clubs who will be selling snacks to fundraise, and food trucks will be present, so don’t forget to bring some cash! This is also a great opportunity to find ways to get involved in the school.
On Friday, wear your class colors and your class t-shirt if you purchased one! Wear white if you’re a freshman, black if you’re a sophomore, yellow if you’re a junior, and red if you’re a senior. Fortunately, we will be able to hold a homecoming assembly this year! Everyone will head down to the football field at 1:00. The parade will start at 5:00 at Paradise Park, but you must make sure you fill out the permission slip that will be made available to you through your class advisor. The Pep band (the Jazz Ensemble) will play, and the football game will start at 7:00.
Saturday night is the homecoming dance that will be held outside on the soccer field this year. To attend, you need to purchase a $10 ticket in the main office. The dance will go from 6-8:30 on Saturday night. Masks are highly encouraged, and high heels are not allowed due to the turf. If the weather does not cooperate, the dance will not be rescheduled, but everyone will receive a full refund. Please read Mrs. Wagar’s email for the full dress code.
Homecoming week is one of the most exciting times of the year. Please use good judgment when participating in all activities to ensure you and your classmates will be able to fully enjoy it. We are so glad to be welcoming back this tried and true East tradition! Everyone is encouraged to become involved in the week’s events, and it will be incredible to see the sea of red in its entirety once again.
