Last Wednesday, three East athletes signed their college athlete contracts. Hannah Nurse, Heather Greenway, and Charles Mack are all officially college athletes for the 2018-19 school year. In a taping for WKMB, during ninth period last Wednesday, all three noted how playing for East helped grow their love for their respective sports.
Nurse will be playing goalie for Slippery Rock’s D3 field hockey team. Greenway will attend Mercyhurst University in Erie playing for their D2 lacrosse team. Mack is playing for Clemson University’s D1 baseball team. When asked what she will miss about East and is looking forward to about Slippery Rock
Hannah Nurse replied, “I think what I’ll miss the most about East is the comfort it brought me and I’ll definitely miss Coach Coyne and all the friends I’ve made along the way. However, I’m ready for this new opportunity.” Nurse also hopes that she will be able to take the lessons she has learned from East and transfer them over to her new experiences at Slippery Rock while majoring in physical education.
Hannah has led the East field hockey team as captain for the past two years. Nurse has led them to their first division win since 1988.
Field hockey teammate Heather Greenway is a multisport athlete who has played both for East’s field hockey and lacrosse teams. Heather is an extraordinarily gifted lacrosse player and has been the captain of the lacrosse team for the past two years. Heather will be majoring in Sports Management while at Mercyhurst University at Erie.
Charles Mack has been on Varsity for his entire East baseball career. His sophomore year Mack led his team to the state championship. He stands out as one of the best players in Western New York at his position.
