Film Appreciation Society is a club that watches movies after school and has food at the meetings! (Bring your own snacks) Here is the schedule for the meetings for the rest of the school year! First, on January 19, we will be showing the J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg mystery thriller Super 8, which as one of the advisors of the club calls it, “a feature length version of the popular Netflix series Stranger Things”. Next, on February 9, we will be showing the Wes Anderson film Rushmore, starring Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray, about a prep school being put on academic probation. Next, in honor of a “Mad March”, we will be showing the winner of 6 Oscars, Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy. On March 30, we will be showing the classic crime drama, Pulp Fiction, starring John Travolta, Uma Thurman, and Samuel L. Jackson, about violence and redemption. On April 6, we will be showing the Christopher Nolan sci-fi action hit Inception, starring Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio! On April 20, in honor of William Shakespeare’s birthday, will be showing the drama thriller Titus. On “May the 4th be with you” day, we won’t be watching Star Wars, but instead the classic, Raiders of the Lost Ark! It is produced by George Lucas and stars Harrison Ford, so it still makes sense. On May 25, we will be showing the action cult classic Big Trouble in Little China, about a trucker getting dragged into a battle in Chinatown. And finally, on June 8, we will be showing the Studio Ghibli masterpiece, Spirited Away, directed by Academy Award winning director Hayao Miyazaki, about a young girl moving to a new house and entering a land of crazy spirits. Also some of the movies in this lineup, namely Rushmore, Mad Max: Fury Road, Pulp Fiction, and Titus, are rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America, so you must get a permission slip in the English department. Join us after school on these days to sit back, relax, and watch a movie with all of us at Film Appreciation Society.
Please show Godfrey Reggio and Philip Glass’s 1982 film “Koyaanisqatsi.”
