Did you hear the news? Costco Wholesale has set its sights on Amherst,  planning to open its first local store here in our community! Scheduled to open its doors in late 2024, Costco is making its way to our area. Here’s what you need to know:

The wholesale retailer announced its plan to expand into Western New York in March 2022. They have  secured a location  along Niagara Falls Boulevard, right across from The Boulevard shopping center, where Tony Roma’s restaurant used to be. This development is significant for our community. Located at 4200 Ridge Lea Road, within the former University at Buffalo annex property, the arrival of Costco promises to bring new opportunities and excitement to our area.

While many of us  are excited about the prospect of having a Costco, some have raised concerns about potential traffic congestion. Plans are already  in place to address these concerns, including the possible addition of traffic lights. Construction began in 2023, with Benderson Development, the town, and the Department of Transportation collaborating to ensure a smooth transition.

Although the store was initially planned to open as soon as late 2023, progress on the construction is still underway. Recently, 7 News provided an update on the progress of the new Costco’s construction. According to their report, with preparations in full swing, there’s optimism that the store could be up and running by the end of the year.

So, what does this mean for us? It means that we’ll soon have a Costco right here in Amherst! With its extensive range of products and reasonable price, it’s definitely something to look forward to. Stay tuned for more updates, and mark your calendars for the grand opening in late 2024!
