With Christmas break being around the corner, the holiday season has arrived. As decorations and excitement go around at East, our community certainly has their winter favorites. The East Side News is proud to present our second survey of the year, solely revolving around the wonders of “the most wonderful time of the year.” With such a diverse crowd of students, here are some of the ways our community perceives the wonders of winter.

While there are three major holidays that are celebrated this time of year, Christmas was the most popular, while others only celebrate our time off. While there are perks to both, it’s certainly clear that more people enjoy giving gifts (63.6%) than receiving (36.4%). Even if there isn’t any snow on the ground, the presence of cold weather is unquestioned; the enjoyment of it is. People are split half and half; some people find it merely tolerable while others very much enjoy it.

Sugar cookies and candy canes were the favorites of holiday sweets, being 36.4% and 27.3% of votes respectively, with a close runner up in gingerbread (18.2%). Nevertheless, students are certainly enthusiastic about the time off and going on vacation (45.5%), while others are looking forward to spending time with family and friends (27.3%), as well as listening to music and giving gifts (27.2%). Last but not least, East’s favorite winter activities were assuredly diverse, closely splitting between watching holiday movies, staying inside, reading a book by the fireplace, and going outside to participate in a variety of activities, such as sledding or building a snowman.

From all of us at East Side News, we hope you enjoy the holiday season and have a wonderful, relaxing, and safe winter vacation.
